Savannah Simpson-Lafayette-C/F-5’11”
Simpson has very high potential, The daughter of a former overseas pro and college basketball player for the Memphis Tigers 6’10” forward Stan Simpson. This explains her extraordinary height and length at just a freshman. I don’t normally do player comparisons but it’s hard not to think of a young Candace Parker when you watch Savannah play. Simpson is a walking double-double. She can bring the ball up the court to set the offense or lead the fast break. She’s a good passer from the post that has a knack for finding open teammates and getting everyone involved. She’s a very disciplined defender she knows how to use her length and wall up to protect the paint while not getting in foul trouble she blocks a ton of perimeter shots as well. She brings the intensity and passion to every game it’s obvious she’s a real “Hooper”. Simpson is a high-character player, she keeps a good attitude on the court and is very coachable. She loves supporting her teammates and is the type of player to be the first one there to help her teammate up off the floor when they hit the deck. She is just a freshman so she has plenty of time to develop her game, but you can expect her to be a future Kentucky Miss Basketball award winner.
Maddie Kaufmann-Tates Creek-G- 5’5″
Kaufmann is a dead-eye shooter with endless range. If you let her get hot from three it will be a long night for your defense. She has the ability to come off screens, pull up without hesitation and make difficulty long distance shots. Kaufmann has great ball handling skills she can take her defender off dribble and drive to the basket or create room for her own mid range pull up jumper. She’s a hard worker on both ends of the floor and strives to create scoring opportunities for her teammates.
Kate Pitt-Lexington Catholic-G-5’4″
Lexington Catholic has one of the most skilled players in the district. Kate Pitt can handle the ball well and displays variety of dribble moves that she uses to break down the defender and get to the rim. She has great touch on her floater and uses it well to score inside. Her shot making ability from long and mid-range is very consistent making her an all-around good scorer. Pitt plays solid defense she knows how to keep active hands in the passing lanes and come up with steals. I anticipate Pitt will gain a lot of recognition this season.
Marin Wills-Lexington Christian-PG/G
Wills is a multi-sport athlete exceling on the soccer field as well as the basketball court. She has a solid all around game, very lethal scorer from mid-range and from three. She knows how to move well without the ball which helps her teammates find her for open shots from the perimeter. Wills can draw fouls and capitalize by shooting a high percentage from the free throw line. She has a nose for the ball on defense she likes to be disruptive and knows how to slide her feet to keep who she is guarding in front of her.
Bella Rusing-Paul Lawrence Dunbar-G/F
Rusing is a relentless defender she gives maximum effort every game. She has the ability to take out the opposing teams offensive scoring threats by being a lock down defender. She’s scrappy and does not hesitate to hit the floor for a tie up or loose ball. Rusing has a high basketball IQ she knows where to be on court at the right times, this helps her accumulate multiple steals and blocks. She is a good scorer either by attacking the rim or with her jump shot. Rusing has tremendous upside and she is steadily improving her game.
