After a hard fought battle in the 1st 3 quarters of play, they went on to secure the victory after defeating the Seniors 31-11 in the 4th. They scored 106 total points and 11 different players put at least 4 points on the board. They also forced 36 turnovers. As we’re reflecting on the game, let’s discuss some of the players that really stood out on Saturday. This will be a 2-part article.
Haven Ford Haven Ford 5'5" | CG Rowan County | 2023 State KY | Rowan County | Kentucky Premier 17U EYBL
Ford just looked like she was in her element out there on Saturday. She played great from start to finish and her final stats really depict how complete her game was as she racked up 17 points, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds in 18 and a half minutes of play. There truly was nothing I could point to as a weakness in her game. She did a great job defensively, reading the passing lanes and staying aggressive. She did great offensively, scoring in a variety of ways and finishing tough buckets, as well as distributing and making plays for her teammates. Ford just keeps proving herself on big stages and I don’t expect that to stop anytime soon.
Triniti Ralston Triniti Ralston 5'7" | PG Sacred Heart | 2023 State KY | Sacred Heart
I’ve said it before, but let me say it again: Ralston deserves more recognition. She is an elite point guard that doesn’t just do it on one end of the floor, but absolutely brings it on both ends game-in and game-out. She is an absolute lockdown on-ball defender. She makes things tough on any player she’s defending. She also defends well off the ball, reading passing lanes and constantly coming up with steals and deflections. Offensively, she is an excellent floor general. She can handle the ball with pressure, she makes plays, she sees the floor and delivers passes through traffic, and she can put the ball in the basket. She was making great drives to the rim and finishing tough shots around the basket. When she drew fouls, she knocked down free throws. Some college is going to get an absolute steal in Ralston.
Destiny Thomas Destiny Thomas 5'10" | SF McCracken County | 2023 State KY | McCracken County | Kentucky Premier 17U EYBL
Thomas made it impossible to not instantly notice her. She was scoring, rebounding, and defending at a really high level. She was putting the ball in the basket from everywhere on the court and she was absolutely fearless. The shots she took were really good shots and she worked to get open, both on the perimeter and inside. Thomas has really good length and is an excellent defender. She had 4 steals to go along with her 13 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block and 1 assist. Along with defending, she crashes the boards well and has a ton of offensive tools in her bag. Murray State has a great all-around player to look forward to in Thomas.
Abby Holtman Abby Holtman 5'11" | SF Ryle | 2023 State KY | Ryle | Kentucky Premier 17U EYBL
Holtman was one of the most efficient players on the court as she managed to get stats in nearly every statistical category, including scoring 11 points in the 15 minutes she was on the floor. Holtman showed her ability to get to the hoop and finish strong, along with her ability to knock down pull-up jumpers. She ran the floor well, she defended well, and she made good passes. Although her outside shots weren’t falling, you could see that she can definitely knock them down from anywhere on the perimeter and her high release makes them tough to block.
