The game comes down to possessions for you and your opponent, O-boards increase yours, and D-boards limit theirs. Here is a list of 5 young ladies from this class that understands and embraces the importance of taking care of business on the glass.
Cailey Van Ruler Cailey Van Ruler 5'11" | SF Brandon Valley | 2025 State SD – Brandon Valley – 5’11″ F – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 58th
I got a chance to watch Cailey competing for the Pentagon Schoolers 15U team at the Hardwood Classic in Sioux Falls. She is an absolute workhorse in the paint and gives her team a great interior presence. She works extremely hard on both ends and is a really high character player. Boxing out her opponent consistently and relentlessly pursuing rebounds gives her team extra chances on offense and helps limit her opponent to one shot per possession. Sorry for the bad pun…but this kid truly Rules the paint.
Morgan Johnson Morgan Johnson 5'8" | SF Sioux Falls Roosevelt | 2025 State SD – SF Roosevelt – 5’8″ F – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 22nd
Johnson is a dynamic player who works hard on both ends. She has the potential to play multiple positions but what she will bring to both of them is the ability to rebound the basketball and give her team extra chances on offense and get stops on D. Morgan looks to be a key player for her Roosevelt squad as they enter the 2022-23 season and I love her energy on the floor when she is at her best. A combination of strength and speed makes her a strong candidate to go and get boards for her team. A competitive mindset allows her to get after loose balls and go after boards. I look for her skillset to continue to expand as she competes for the Pentagon Schoolers 15U squad this summer.
Krista Langager Krista Langager 6'0" | C Sisseton | 2025 State SD – Sisseton – 6’0″ C – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 13th
Krista is a true center who gets it done on both ends for her team. She projects to be one of the double-double machines in the state. She has a great frame and plays PHYSICAL basketball. She snags rebounds over her opponents throughout the game and brings great energy to her team. At 6’0″ this kid is a presence and does a lot of the little things that go a long way toward bettering her team. She is one of the best offensive rebounders in the area and gets herself plenty of putback opportunities as well as gives shooters around her more chances. If you love a true post player who isn’t afraid to play like one, this is your player to watch. She may be one of the most intriguing prospects in the paint in the entire state of South Dakota.
Keyra Kruse Keyra Kruse 6'0" | C Sioux Valley | 2025 State SD – Sioux Valley – 6’ 0″ C – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 30th
I have talked a lot about Keyra’s ability to alter shots in previous articles and she could make my defensive specialist group as well, but I want to focus on the rebounding ability of this 6’0″ standout. Surrounded by perimeter shooters on her Cossacks squad, Kruse is an undervalued asset as a lot of those shots come off of her paint presence. Her length on defense makes her a solid rebounder and a great asset to be able to get the ball out and down the floor to teammates early in transition. Look for Keyra’s name to continue to pop up as she competes for the SD network program this summer.
Claire Snaza Claire Snaza 6'0" | C Milbank | 2025 State SD – Milbank – 6’0″ C – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 38th
Claire is a prospect who understands the value of hard work and doing what her team needs to succeed. She has great length and 6’0″ height making her a great shot blocker and paint presence on the defensive end. She’s great on the help side defensively and makes life tough for opponents when they enter the paint. Cleaning up boards with effort and intensity she is a great asset underneath. Look for Snaza to continue to develop with more game experience and increased aggressiveness. She appears to be a prospect who will develop into a double-double candidate in future games for her Milbank squad.
