Big time schools competed against each other, showing some dynamic moves, fierce battles in the paint, and some lethal 3pt shooting. Games were back and forth, displaying hustle plays on both ends of the floor. Here are a few take away from these late afternoon matchups.
Clarksville Academy vs. Hillsboro
Two dynamic squads who will go far this upcoming year. Great back and forth matchup, that saw CA prevail. Both teams battled it out, leaving attendees excited about the upcoming future.
Clarksville Academy unleashed a lethal attack. Doing a lot of pick and pop action and capitalizing against the HHS zone using a nice high-low attack. Atyia Moss Atyia Moss 5'8" | PG Clarksville Academy | 2023 State TN , the sensational senior guard, pushed the tempo, getting to the rim and knocking down shots. Senior Savannah Prather Savannah Prather 5'11" | PF Clarksville Academy | 2023 State TN , displayed a nice mid-range game, also facilitating open shooters and bigs down low. Cetera Warren, the 6’3 post was a beast on the boards. Hard to stop in the high low action. Shinae Johnson Shinae Johnson 5'6" | PG Clarksville Academy | 2024 State TN , the junior guard, played lockdown defense against a potent Lady Burros attack. Was hard to stop on the offensive end, as she carved out the defense.
The Lady Burros picked up where they left off last year. Led by Senior guard Kamil Washum Kamil Washum 5'4" | PG Hillsboro | 2023 State TN , the 5’5 spark plug was key to the Lady Burros attack. Dimming up her teammates, knocking down shots, playing tenacious D, her effort was key and precisely what head coach Cherish Stringfield looks for in her guards. 5’8 Ragan Starks was on point as she knocked down mid-range jumpers and got to the rim. Latazia Williamson, the 6’2 post battled in the paint. She was on the boards and blocked shots on the defensive end. Unleashed a nice mid-range jumper from the corner that saw the bottom of the net multiple times.
This was a great matchup that left both coaches excited about where their teams are headed.
Rockvale vs. Warren Co.
Emaligh Tarpley and Azariah Abell Azariah Abell 5'6" | PG Rockvale | 2023 TN picked up where they left off from earlier that afternoon. Tarpley was confident in her play as she was big on the boards, knocking down clutch shots, and hitting her teammates to where they could catch n’ shoot in rhythm. Azariah was back at it, knocking down shots and getting to the rim.
Warren Co. was tough to deal with, as they executed to perfection. Played such finesse team ball, they shared the rock, knocking down timely 3s, hitting shots in the painted area, and played fierce defense. Senior Kyra Perkins Kyra Perkins 5'10" | SF Warren Co. | 2023 State TN led the charge, as she used her athletic ability to disrupt a potent Lady Rockets attack. Using her 5’10 length, she used her size and speed to gain rebounds, block shots, and tip balls on the defensive end. Offensively, the mid-range area was her bread and butter. This WCHS team will be a good squad this upcoming season .
