One of the most exciting aspects of a perimeter game is the ability to explode by a defender, get to the rack zone, and finish with authority. If that ignites your basketball senses, you will LOVE watching these six get after it.
Logan Smidt Logan Smidt 5'8" | PG Brookings | 2025 State SD – Brookings – 5’7″ PG – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 3rd
Logan is a cannon waiting to be lit every time she catches the ball on offense. She is the most explosive guard I have seen this summer. Recently at the Hardwood Classic in Sioux Falls, she blew by her defender every chance she got, getting to the rack and scoring with ease. Her first step is one of the best in the area and she is a nightmare for defenses to stop. Physicality is a great noticeable strength but her handles are really solid too. This combination allows her to create her own shot, get to the free-throw line, and set up open shots for her teammates when the defense collapses. Logan could quite possibly gain more experience and insight into the game than anyone else on this list as she gets to play for a fellow Bobcat in former Brookings coach and Dakota Wesleyan University Hall of Famer Lynn Frederick.
Adison Moore Adison Moore 5'6" | CG Iroquois/Lake Preston | 2025 State SD – Huron – 5’6″ CG – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 46th
Adison is a real threat from beyond the arc as a shooter and because of this her attacking ability to get to the rim is that much more effective. Defenders have to honor her outside shot, which means she can use her quickness and handles to attack the paint. She reads defenders from the wing well and understands when she has the shot, or when she can get by the defense for an opportunity at the basket. She recently showed off her skills at the Hardwood Classic teamed up with fellow perimeter powerhouse Logan from above on the Pentagon Schoolers 15U Team. Their team competed well and got to a championship. These two talented guards were a big reason why. Look for Adison to continue to vault up the rankings list and become a household name if you enjoy fast-paced basketball, aggressive takes to the rack, and overall solid perimeter skill.
Brooke Jensen Brooke Jensen 6'0" | SF Vermillion | 2025 State SD – Vermillion – 6’0″ SF – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 1st
Brooke is ranked number one in this class for a reason, and what puts her high in my personal rankings is in large part due to her ability to attack the rim, using her rare combination of a 6’0″ frame and quickness to score at will. Her program is developing and has a lot of young talent, and she headlines it. This guard is a true leader, a student of the game, and an immense talent. Standing at 6’0″ with fantastic length, speed, and explosion she leaps out at you as a D1 prospect. She has one of the highest IQ’s of not only anyone in her class but any player in the state. A superb competitor on both ends she does a lot of everything right and is one of the names to keep an eye on as she continues to gain experience. You can catch her playing for SD Attack this summer on a really solid group that looks to be fun to watch.
Reagan Rus Reagan Rus 5'9" | SG Mt. Vernon | 2025 State SD – Mt. Vernon/Plankinton – 5’9″ SG – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 2nd
Reagan is another perimeter power member for me mainly because of her competitive mindset and aggressive guard play. On defense, they don’t get a lot better than this guard as she knows when to take chances to create turnovers for her team by blocking shots and getting steals. Aggressive and smart makes for an outstanding force on the defensive end. On offense, she possesses a smooth 3-point shot and a willingness to beat her girl 1 on 1 and get shots in the paint. Regan Rus is a powerful guard with an aggressive mindset that brings a lot to the table for her team. Keep an eye on her talented SD Attack team this summer and watch her take down opponents game after game.
Isabelle Bloker Isabelle Bloker 5'5" | SG Sioux Valley | 2025 State SD – Sioux Valley – 5’5″ SG – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 5th
Isabelle makes this list as a true do it all guard. What sets her apart from others is her aggressive shooting mindset and superb confidence in scoring the basketball. She will shoot the three given any space and isn’t afraid to light it up beyond the arc. Pair that with an attacking downhill mindset and you have a powerful threat on the perimeter. She has very deep range from three and is a threat to score from all over. She has a really nice floater and pull-up jump shot when she gets to the paint off the dribble. At 5’5″ she is very adept at finding ways to score over the defense and truly understands how to use her strengths to be effective. Yet another member of the SD Attack program Bloker continues to improve her already solid game.
Ava Hanson Ava Hanson 5'10" | SG Aberdeen Roncalli | 2025 State SD – Aberdeen Roncalli – 5’10″ SG – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 19th
Ava looks to be an up-and-coming leader for Roncalli as they look to continue their successful run after two state tournament appearances in the last two years. Losing a large number of seniors, look for Ava to have an expanded role and a be a leader for this group. At 5’10″ she is really effective on both ends, blocking shots, stealing passes, knocking down threes, and getting to the paint to finish. She’s a strong guard who can utilize her frame to score over other perimeter players. An aggressive mindset and a balanced attack make her a candidate to play at the next level.
