Jakyra Jackson-England Lady Ballers, 5’8” SG, Marvell-Elaine HS-Jakyra was one of the best players in the tournament. Her basketball instincts were amazing. She’s an excellent one-on-one player. Offensively she can score a will. Her quickness coupled with her strength just overwhelmed the competition. When her team needed to score, the ball was in her hands. If she keeps playing summer basketball and sharpens her skills on defense, she will be a sleeper among the top players in the state. And she’ll be just a sophomore next school season. Keep your eyes on this young athlete!
Maddie Mannion-Arkansas Lady Warriors 2024, 5’9” SG, Vilonia HS-Another youngster that was on the list of top players in the tournament. Maddie will be just a freshman in high school next season but should play an important role on the varsity squad. She likes to play facing the basket but can go down low and be effective in the paint as well. She already has the size and strength to play at a higher level of competition. She doesn’t get rattled and she displays all of the necessary tools to exceed. Sometimes focus might be an issue, but putting that aside, she can make a huge impact at the high school level next year. Mark this athlete down as one to watch as well!
Stella Parker-ENG 17U, 5’9” SG, Brookland HS-Stella could have easily been listed as a top performer for both days. She’s a mature player that is balanced in all of the necessary skills. She leads her team in most statistical categories. She’s an excellent rebounder on both ends of the court. Stella can hit the 3-ball but is most effective inside the arc. She moves very well without the ball and will catch and penetrate for a higher percentage shot or draw the foul. She obtains a high-level basketball IQ. Stella will lead her high school team to a successful season in her senior year.
Aerial Penister-England Lady Ballers, 5’11” Post, England HS-Aerial is most efficient in the paint. However, she can draw her opponent out past the three-point line and be effective there as well. She makes up for her lack of quickness with excellent footwork. She utilizes her size to set up effective screens and then rolls to the basket with success. Inside she can create and draw fouls. If she can stay motivated the entire game, she has a chance to play at the next level.
Macy Slater-ENG 16U, 6’0” Post, Brookland HS-Macy is another “space eater” inside the paint. She’s one of those players that is always around the ball. She makes plays that you don’t think she could make. Her size enables her to be productive on the court. Also, she can hit the three if she gets a good look. If she works on her weak hand and improves her footwork, this sophomore to be could log some varsity minutes with her high school team next year.
Kate Wood-Arkansas Lady Warriors, 5’8” SG, Perryville HS-Kate is effective both inside and out. She can hit the three-ball, but can also drive to the basket and finish. Her length is an advantage for her offensively and defensively. She’s smart and quick. This summer experience should help her gain a varsity spot as a sophomore next school season.
ENG 17U won the high school division with England Lady Ballers capturing the 16U crown. Highly competitive play and extraordinary sportsmanship prevailed.
