Presbyterian College and its women’s basketball coach Alaura Sharp held such a camp on June 16. It utilized three courts including its main gym at the Templeton Physical Education Center plus another at the Spring Student & Fitness Center. A third was utilized at nearby Thornwell.
Teams from both Carolinas as well as Georgia converged on the home of the Blue Hose for a full day of hoops and we at Prep Girls Hoops made the trip as well. Here is a look at Palmetto State standouts among the 2023 class who raised eyebrows.
Kimyah Foggie Kimyah Foggie 5'10" | SF Legacy Early College | 2023 State SC – Legacy Early College – Foggie is getting a chance to sport her purple Lions uniform once again after wearing that of Upward Stars 2023 on the travel circuit. She brings a team-first attitude to every game she plays. While she is a potent scorer with a rim-attacking ability, Foggie also does many of the things that does not always show up on the stat sheet such as diving for loose balls. She can be accurate from 3-point range but her speed and ball handling capabilities make her particularly a threat to penetrate to the rack and finish strong at the cup.
Riley Stack Riley Stack 6'5" | SF Wren | 2023 State SC – Wren HS – Stack had an impressive showing last week at the team camp up at Furman University and managed to impress once again at this week’s team camp at Presbyterian. A tall big at 6-foot-4, she combines the ability to put points on the board from the painted are along with a knack for hitting her attempts from midrange. Stack is also a proficient rebounder who adds length in addition to her height. That comes in handy when blocking shots. She holds a number of collegiate offers – including those from the Division I ranks – and it is likely the offers will continue to come pouring in before she makes a decision on where she will commit to.
Anaya Muhammad Anaya Muhammad 5'6" | PG Woodmont | 2023 State SC – Woodmont HS – Speaking of impressive 5A standouts from the South Carolina upstate, Muhammad is one of those who is sure to conclude her high school career in emphatic fashion. Muhammad is quick with the ball in her hands, can make efficient passes and is an effective rebounder. The 5-foot-7 star who previously hooped for Southside is also skilled at draining 3-point attempts. Defense is another area of the game that she has excelled at throughout the years. She runs on the grassroots circuit with FBC Carolina Hawks Parks 2023. Muhammad is a two-sport athlete who also showcases what she can do on the soccer pitch.
Jessica Woods Jessica Woods 5'7" | CG Westwood | 2023 State SC – Westwood HS – Woods became one of the latest South Carolina high school girls standouts to announce her commitment as she will play her collegiate ball at Division I Campbell in North Carolina. She combines ball handling ability with a great deal of speed, quickness and agility. Her court vision enables her to make efficient passes to her teammates and she also excels as a scorer and a rebounder. Her activity on defense also enables her to collect steals – a ball hawk for the Redhawks, one would say. Woods had an outstanding 2021-22 season as she averaged 19.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and three steals per game, leading Westwood to a deep 4A postseason run.
