Coach Alaura Sharp and the Blue Hose did indeed host what was an exciting camp that day. Three courts were utilized including its main court at the Templeton Physical Education Center in addition to one at the Spring Student & Fitness Center and one at nearby Thornwell.
It welcomed teams from South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia as well as us at Prep Girls Hoops. Here is who stood out amongst the many 2024s that made the trip.
Trinity Nesbitt Trinity Nesbitt 5'10" | PF Woodmont | 2024 State SC – Woodmont HS – A little bit of Nesbitt has gone a long way for the Wildcats. It went a long way in 2021-22 by virtue of its 18-10 record and its qualification for the SCHSL 5A playoffs. Nesbitt is an at-will scorer and an at-will rebounder who thrives near the rim. She can get creative with how she finishes near the rim and many of the boards she corrals are of the offensive variety. Nesbitt can display an ability to take care of the ball and drive to the rim against a slew of defenders. She also has no issue with absorbing contact and finding her way to the free throw line.
Madison Pounds – NC GBB Academy – The Eagles have done well transfer-wise. She plays excellent defense, is gifted at running the floor and will make plays in the transition game. Pounds also has no problems burying 3-pointers and typically finds herself at the right place at the right time on the court. She primarily plays at the one for the Eagles and assumed team captaincy duties along with a pair of other players. Prior to arriving at the Durham-based school, she wore the navy blue and orange of the Wilson Prep Tigers. Pounds averaged 18.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.9 assists in 24 games in 2021-22.
Amiyah Clark-Lamelle Amiyah Clark-Lamelle 5'3" | PG Greer | 2024 State SC – Greer HS – Unlike the conventional meaning of ACL in the sporting lexicon, here is one that has a positive denotation. Last season, she averaged 12.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.7 steals per game for the Yellowjackets. She will attempt and make a good number of 3-point shots. Clark-Lamelle delivers all-out hustle and is also accurate from within the perimeter – particularly with floaters. She will also have occasions where she gets into iso sets and can organize an offense in the halfcourt. At times, it appears there is more than one of her on the court as active as she is.
Amyia Scott – Flowery Branch HS – Scott is one of four from the 2024 class according to last season’s roster. On a team that has a number of potent scorers, she too can put her fair share of points on the board as well. One way she accomplishes this is by driving to the rim and by weaving her way through a sea of opposing defenders. In addition, she will also showcase her ability to take good care of the basketball and she is not afraid of contact which can place her at the free throw line. Defensively, she causes problems for opposing teams with her ability to collect steals as well as via shot blocking.
Ja’Niya Norfus – Mauldin HS – Norfus was an integral piece to the Mavericks’ winning puzzle of 2021-22 as Mauldin got to within one game shy of the 5A state championship game. She is listed at 5-foot-5 and primarily plays in the backcourt. Norfus will play productive minutes where she not only helps her team with the points she can put on the board but also by getting position to grab rebounds. She is finding her footing on a Mavericks team that has a number of playmakers as she can be counted on to do the same with the minutes she manages to obtain.
