The three point shooting by the guards was magnificent, their defense was smothering at times, and they left you wandering was the next Sydney Gomes on the court. In this article we hilight the guards who stood out in week two of the summer league in St Johns County.
Taylor Perce Taylor Perce 5'10" | SG Ponte Vedra | 2024 State FL (Ponte Vedra 2024) shot the cover off of the ball during week 2 of the Summer League play. The 2024 Guard knocked down 5 three-pointers in the first game of a double header and at last count she had knocked down 6. Perce did a good job of getting to her spot and knocking down her shots. Perce shot the ball with confidence and without hesitation. She also did a good job of handling the ball and creating open shots for her teammates. Perce’s improvement has been a noticeable one and she is poised to have a great junior season.
Kelly Cramer Kelly Cramer 5'9" | PG St. Joseph Academy | 2024 State FL (St Joseph Academy 2024). Cramer plays at a different pace than everyone else and she can run all day. Cramer takes it hard to the rack and with speed. If you can’t run, you can’t keep up with Cramer. Her defense is relentless and she plays the passing lanes very well. Once she gains possession she attacks the basket from either side.
Regan Chappell Regan Chappell 5'7" | SG DME Academy | 2024 State FL (Ponte Vedra 2024) was the MVP of week 2 of Summer League Play. Chappell knocked down at least 5 threes in two games and she had the midrange game cooking. Chappell did a good job of handling the ball and her defense was on point. Chappell got a lot of steals in the 2 games I saw her play. What makes Chappell special is what she does after steals. She is one of the best at putting the ball in the basket after a change of possession.
Kennedy Rosendahl Kennedy Rosendahl 5'6" | SG Ponte Vedra | 2024 State FL (Ponte Vedra 2024). Rosendahl was impressive running the point and handling the ball. She is one of the purest shooters on the First Coast and now she has started attacking the basket. Rosendahl continues to impress at the point guard position, especially when she is one of the best shooting guards on the First Coast. Her game is becoming more versatile by the minute. That spells trouble for next year’s opponents.
Jasmin Valcin (Tocoi Creek 2024). Valcin has some speed on the court and it’s difficult for anyone to stay in front of her. She was very competitive on the court and was a ball of energy on both sides of the court. If the ball was loose on the floor, you can bet she was diving for it. She did a good job of driving to the goal and drawing fouls. She is going to be a hard guard to contain in her Junior season.
Jadynn Spivey Jadynn Spivey 5'9" | SG Creekside | 2025 State FL (Creekside 2025). When you see Spivey on the court, she is as athletic as they come. She moves with speed on the defensive end and the offensive end. She did a good job of driving the ball to the goal and knocking down a few jumpers. Spivey was amongst the Freshman leaders in steals last year, and with her quickness and defensive abilities look for the same next year in her Sophomore year. She is also a mature player and teammates already look to her for leadership on the court.
Ponte Vedra may have the best collection of shooters on the First Coast. Chappell, Perce and Rosendahl could make a case for that claim based on their week 2 performance. The case can be made for sure when you add Morgan Gavazzi Morgan Gavazzi 5'6" | PG Ponte Vedra | 2024 State FL to the mix. Gavazzi was the MVP of the Sharks last year and did not play in the double header games.
