The event was held from June 4-5 and featured some of the top talent in Southern California. I was able to attend the event on Saturday, June 4 at the Grand Terrace location. Here’s a quick look at some of the top standouts I saw.
1. Chloe Briggs Chloe Briggs 6'0" | SF Ontario Christian HS | 2023 State CA – Ontario Christian 2023
Briggs has consistently been one of the best point guards in her class for a while now. She makes passes and sees the court at an advanced level. She knows how to read the defense and find the open teammate cutting along the baseline or spotting up for three. She’s able to play both guard positions and is comfortable finding the balance between scoring and playmaking. Good three point shooter. Able to break down the defense and get to the rim.
2. Rylei Waugh Rylei Waugh 5'6" | PG Westchester | 2023 State CA – Westchester 2023
Waugh is another solid combo guard. She is capable of being the lead guard and initiating the offense but playing with a couple of other playmakers on Team Taurasi, she did well playing off-ball and still getting scoring opportunities. She continues to be a consistent threat from three-point range. Squares up well and has become very good with catch and shoot. In one of the games I saw, the defense kept sagging off of her and she made them pay.
3. Sydney Douglas – Cal Storm Taurasi 15U
Douglas has very good size in the mold of a big wing. She can handle the ball, dribble up court on the break and go coast to coast to finish. She’s got some skill in the post. She’s able to get good position and she can make good passes too to teammates along the baseline. Cleans up misses in the paint with offensive put backs. Able to pass out of the post. Good screener. Good on-ball defender.
4. Alana White – Cal Storm Taurasi 15U
White has all the tools to be a very good post. She uses her size well in the paint and get good position. She’s strong and can finish through contact. She can draw fouls too and get to the free-throw line. She is quick and decisive when making a move in the post. Able to read the defense well and pass back out of the post. One of the better rebounders I saw at the event who boxes out properly.
