The Pikeville Lady Panthers are the reigning 15th region champs. Leighan Jackson was a key component to their success. Jackson is a workhorse in the paint she’s strong and plays with a fearless mentality providing that instant spark off the bench with her high level of intensity. Leighan is a low post interior player who has the ability to dominate the inside on by ends of the floor. She enjoys the physicality that’s required in playing down low. Jackson has elite rebounding ability and she uses her body well to gain leverage while boxing out. She is fundamentally sound, and has the footwork to face up and take her defender off the dribble strong driver that can finish with both hands at the rim when scoring. Jackson is very coachable and has great upside I expect her to become a starter this upcoming season and make an immediate impact on offense and defense for the Coach Orem.
Reagan Tackett-Augusta-PG
Reagan Tackett is a flat out assassin on the court she can score at will and can easily go for 20+ points on any given night. She led Augusta in scoring last season that should tell how much of high volume scorer Tackett is. What I like the most is how efficient she is from the floor she doesn’t jack up shots hoping they go in she takes good shots that she knows she can make. She is a clutch performer as well she’s the one you want with the ball in her hands when its a tie game with seconds to go on the clock Reagan Tackett will deliver. I expect Coach Mckay will make her the focal point of the offense this season. Tackett will be a top player in the 10th region no doubt about it.
Madelyn Curtsinger-Bullitt East-PF
Curtsinger is a bulldozer in the post she knows to how use her body well to get position for the entry pass to either finish inside or kick it out to an open teammate. She has that uncanny ability to rebound the basketball she’s always in the right place at the right time. Once she has you boxed out there is no way to get the board over her without getting called for over the back. Curtsinger has nice touch on her shot an can hit mid range jumpers when she gets a good look. Look for her to make big strides this year and become a leading rebounder in the 24th district.
Nevaeh Day-Christian County-F/C
Kiki Radford has the one of the most athletic rosters in the 2nd region. Nevaeh Day is the center piece, her length and size makes her a real problem for the opposing team. She has raw talent and really good athleticism, as she increases her mechanics and coordination I think she could be dunking the ball before you know it. Day is an excellent rim protector and intimidator inside using her long wingspan to block shots. She’s a talented scorer very capable of a double-double anytime she steps on the court. Her potential is through the roof. Day will be a D1 caliber prospect by her junior year.
Kaia Peterson-Scott(Covington)-SF/PF
Be on the lookout for Scott High School’s Kaia Peterson, she is a hard nose competitor who plays ball harassing defense. She likes to get up in the offensive player until they turn the ball over or she comes up with the steal. Her smothering style of defense becomes vital in pressing situation. For a young player Peterson knows how to play under control she has great offensive awareness along with a strong mid range game. She’s super consistent from the floor shooting a high percentage and can drive to the cup to get buckets as well. Kaia comes from a family of Hooper’s, her older sister Kayla Peterson is already a standout player for Scott who has received multiple offers from college coaches. I anticipate Kaia will gain the same amount of recognition by her senior year if not more.
Katy Smiley-Caldwell County-WG-(5’9″)
Coach Mitchell has a lot of young developing talent on his roster. Katy Smiley can absolutely fill up a stat sheet she is a deadly long distance shooter with unlimited range on her shot. If you let Smiley find her groove she will be raining three’s all game. She is solid defender as well she uses her length and lateral quickness to keep the offensive in front of her. Smiley is a mature player for her age she stays composed in tough situations and doesn’t get rattled easy. Katy is very good at driving to the rim and finishing with contact she’s automatic at the charity stripe as well. Smiley will mostly likely lead district 7 in made three-pointers this season.
Nevaeh Davis-Nicholas County-SF/PF
Nevaeh Davis is a energetic player with an extremely high motor. She is super competitive and goes all out when she’s on the court I like how she never let’s up. If you play against her you better be ready work hard because she’s going to give maximum effort every possession. Davis battles at both ends of the floor she’s efficient scoring in the lane and can step out to hit perimeter shots. She’s a solid defender and great rebounder which leads to a lot of second chance baskets for the Lady Jackets. Nevaeh has been working hard this summer steadily improving her game expect her to make her presence known this season.
