Continue ReadingThe 17U division had a lot of the best players from the 2023 and 2024 classes as a part of this tough division which created a lot of high level, competitive games. In the end, Richmond Heat took the Championship with big time wins over Alabama Twisters Elite, Grindhouse Elite Club, Lady OTOD Pink, and MHD Elite in the title game. Here are the top 5 players we chose to represent the First Team:
Jada Peterson Jada Peterson 5'7" | CG Kell | 2023 State GA | Georgia Queen Elite | 2023
Jada is a quick guard with a first step that allows her to blow by just about anyone. Her speed makes her transition game really hard to slow down as she can finish when she gets to the rim. She’s also got a 3-point shot that gets better each time I see her with a stepback in her arsenal. On defense, she will get in your face and cause turnovers with her pressure and active hands. Jada can put points up in a hurry, and she can really do a little bit of everything as one of the top guards in Georgia’s 2023 class.
Nia Blocton Nia Blocton 6'0" | SF Ridgeview | 2024 State FL | MHD Elite | 2024
Nia is a double-double machine. There were no answers for her throughout the weekend in a Second Place finish for MHD Elite. She has good size, length, speed, and strength. Her handles are impressive for her position as she can bring the ball up the floor and is so tough to stop when she gets going downhill towards the rim. Nia runs the floor very well and protects the paint on defense, too. She shined this weekend as a 2024 playing up a class.
Bailey Hensley Bailey Hensley 5'10" | SG Madison Central | 2024 State KY | Richmond Heat | 2024
Bailey was a certified, walking bucket all Circuit long. If I had to pick an MVP, she would be my choice for the Triumph Region Finals as a Champion. She has good size and a great frame for her position which caused her to draw a ton of contact from opponents this weekend, but she played through it. Her mid-range game was really impressive with nice height on her jumper and runners off of either foot with a few floaters, too. She does a nice job of creating for herself on offense, and she rebounds really well with how strong she is as a versatile guard. In the 2024 class, she is a huge stock riser that is going to continue making noise.
Gracyn Grantz Gracyn Grantz 5'9" | SF Lafayette | 2023 State KY | Richmond Heat | 2023
Gracyn really made this Richmond Heat team go this weekend…all the way to a title! She went off in Game One with 24 points, and her range was on display in Spartanbug in every game. Her game is so unselfish, and she plays hard on both ends to make sure her teammates eat. With her unselfish game, she always makes the extra pass and gets her teammates involved by distributing on a team full of offensive weapons. Gracyn scored at all three levels this weekend and seems to be a player that is only getting better with time.
Ashaunte Monday Ashaunte Monday 5'6" | PG Pleasant Grove | 2023 State AL | Alabama Twisters Elite | 2023
Ashaunte was the smoothest players with the rock in the 17U division. She has really good handles and can get by you with that ball handling coupled with her speed. With the ball on a string, she can cause multiple defenders to collapse when she’s driving which then allows her teammates to spot up and get a good look at a three. Her court vision and awareness were solid with some flashy passes that were accurate and tricked the defenders. Even though she faciliatates a lot for her teammates, she can really score the ball too. She has a nice floater game and can hit the trey ball with ease. Ashaunte may be under the radar, but it can’t be for long with the amount of talent she has.
