Recently we updated the rankings for the Class of 2023. Earlier we introduced an article with the top stock-risers from that class, however, there have been many girls who have stood out throughout the Spring and Summer grassroots season. While they might not have made our stock-risers article, to follow are seven ladies in the Class of 2023 whose efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.

– Madelyn is a long, wiry, fluid athlete who plays with a nice motor. She possesses solid skill to play on the wing, she can handle it some in transition, and she looks to attack first on each catch. Defensively, she moves well enough to defend bigger guards and wings, and enough strength to defend most forwards as well. At the same time, she will play some in the mid-post and short-corners offensively, plus she’s always around the basket boxing out or pursuing rebounds. I think she’s a wing at the next level, though.

– Taylor is definitely someone to keep an eye on, because she missed much of the Spring due to injury. She did return in July, and in the past, she has shown the potential to be a really nice prospect in 2023. She has length, wiry strength, some bounce, and nice speed and quickness. She was always more of an attacker/driver, but she has made her jump-shot more consistent over the years, so she’s now more of a multilevel scoring threat. She’s also a versatile defender who plays with a nice motor and a quiet toughness.

, 2023, 5-11 F/C, North Central H.S. (Indianapolis), Lady Gym Rats-Kam 17U
– Nakiya had a strong Summer heading into her Freshman year of high school, as she was dominant and even held a Horizon League offer at that time. But to the best of my knowledge, this was the first Spring and Summer since where she has been consistently involved in grassroots basketball, and she’s starting to show some of that same impact on the court. She is strong, physical, but also a solid all-around athlete. She can control the boards and score it inside of 15-feet. Look for her to step up for the Panthers this Winter.

, 2023, 6-2 C, West Lafayette Harrison H.S., Indiana Elite Xcel 17U
– I really like Campbell’s potential for the next level, and I think she’s one of those kids who is a little overlooked right now by college coaches. She is very strong/powerful, and physical early in possessions, as she establishes position offensively or prevents opponents from taking their spot on the block defensively. She is also a solid athlete, a hard-working post, and she has some skill. She could be a little more instinctual on the catch, but she has some touch to 15-feet, and she has nice upside to keep improving in college.

, 2023, 6-2 C, La Lumiere Preparatory, City Elite Prime 17U
– Lila is probably a new name to you, as it was to me a couple of months ago. She is a European post who came to La Lumiere this past year. She has a solid to strong frame, nice height, and some length. She plays hard, runs North/South reasonably well in transition, but it’s her skill in the half-court that stands out. She has good hands, solid footwork, and the ability to score it with her back to the basket. But she also has a face-up game, likes mid-post jumpers, plus she can stretch the defense by burying the occasional 3-pointer.

Scottsburg | 2023

, 2023, 5-9 F, Scottsburg H.S., Indiana Elite Lightning 17U
– To begin with, the biggest thing for Hannah is that she looks healthy. She had a fantastic Summer, and she shot the lights out, whether she was with her high school team in June, or her travel team in July. She has great touch when she has her feet set and any rhythm. She can play a face-up ‘4’ role, pick-and-pop and stretch defenses, or she can simply play around the perimeter because she has a solid handle and is a good passer. She’ll need to get quicker on the ball defensively, but she has a motor, she’s physical, and she will rebound.
Ava Weber

Corydon Central | 2023
State
IN
, 2023, 5-11 F, Corydon Central H.S.
– Ava isn’t a grassroots participant, so you’ll have to watch the Lady Panthers play to see her in action. What she is, is a versatile, athletic, inside-out forward who does a little of everything for her team. She has a solid, wiry-strong frame. She plays with a nice motor, and she can get to the rim and finish through contact. She’ll handle the ball from time to time and attack from the perimeter, otherwise she prefers to play more in the mid-post. She draws contact/free throws regularly, plus she can defend multiple positions.
