One of the most exciting aspects of a perimeter game is the ability to explode by a defender, get to the rack zone, and finish with authority. If that ignites your basketball senses, you will LOVE watching these five ball.
Emilee Fox Emilee Fox 5'8" | CG Mt.Vernon/Plankinton | 2024 State SD – Mt. Vernon/Plankinton – 5’8″ CG – Current Class of 2024 PGH Ranking – 2nd
South Dakota State knew what they were doing when they locked this guard down. Ranked number 2 overall in her class Emilee is a basketball phenom. She is an extremely intelligent player who sees the floor as well as anyone. This allows her to get to the rack and score at will and find openings in the offense to get her impressive shot off. She plays with great intensity and isn’t afraid to take the big shot. She handles the ball very effectively and can run the point or work off of the ball to score from three, in the mid-range, or at the rim. She is the definition of an all-around scorer. She has a fantastic first step and can take anyone that guards her off the dribble. Fox is one of the only true triple-double caliber players as she does everything well. She can score, is a great rebounding guard, and is a spot-on passer who makes everyone else in the same color uniform better with her on-court and off-court presence. A true leader, a real passion for the game, immense talent and you have the makings of a star to finish her high school career and continue it in college. Look for SD Attack in a gym near you to watch her hoop with a ton of other talented prospects in this class. They are a ton of fun to watch and their team is filled with next-level prospects.
Skyler Volmer Skyler Volmer 5'9" | CG Lyman | 2024 State SD – Lyman – 5’9″ PG – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 13th
Skyler has the perfect basketball physique. She is quick, long, tall, and has a ton of skill to go along with it. With one of the best attacking mentalities in the state, she is a lot of fun when she hits the court. She wins a ton of one on ones and understands how to find soft spots against any defense that she can get to the rim or stop and hit shots. Volmer is a dual-threat along the perimeter as she uses her quickness, length, and anticipation to create turnovers on defense, and employs those same attributes to put up points in bunches. You can catch her weaving through defenses to finish at the rim for SD network this summer.
Peyton Tritz Peyton Tritz 5'6" | PG Waverly | 2024 State NE – Dakota Valley – 5’4″ PG – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 17th
Peyton makes this list due in large part to her downhill, attacking mentality. Pair this with good vision, passing skills, and handles, and you have a high-quality perimeter player who is a huge threat on the court. I love the intensity this kid plays with on both ends. She can get up and guard talented perimeter players tight, moving her feet well to deny them space to the rim, and creating very difficult passing angles for her opponents. She’s a steal machine and she can get to the other end in the blink of an eye off the dribble. She has a nice 3-point shot which pairs nicely with her aggressive mindset in getting to the rim. Tritz is going to have an expanded role this year at Dakota Valley and will be a big name to keep your eye on in Class A basketball.
Lily Klein Lily Klein 5'9" | SG Flandreau | 2024 State SD – Flandreau – 5’9″ SG – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 24th
Lily’s game looks wise beyond her years. From a young age, this kid just seems to flat out get it. She can shoot it, drive it, dish it, whatever her team needs she can deliver. With a wide variety of moves and loads of confidence, she is one of the best in her class at taking her opponent off the dribble and finding a way to get to her spots to score. She’s a great teammate, always leading by example, making the play her team needs, and finding a way to help secure a W. Klein plays alongside a really talented teammate in Claire Sheppard Claire Sheppard 6'1" | SF Flandreau | 2024 State SD and they will be one of the most dynamic duos to keep your eye on this upcoming season.
Ava Nilsson – Warner – 6’0″ SG – Current Class of 2025 PGH Ranking – 33rd
Ava is an underrated perimeter player in my book. She is a superb defender with great length who creates havoc against her opponent. She makes this list though because of her solid handles and ability to get to the rack zone whether it be full-court in transition or executing in the half-court. She has a smooth jump shot, attacks the middle really well, and finds ways for herself or her teammates to get buckets. Without the ball in her hands, she moves extremely well and comes off screens, and cuts hard to hit open shots. She is an absolute powerhouse along the perimeter and makes matching up very difficult for opposing teams. A willing rebounder, solid defender, and talented scorer makes for one of the more complete perimeter players in this class.
