5 games to see at Breakdown’s Summer State Tourney

The AAU season has barely concluded and it’s already time for one of the best events of the summer high school season – the Breakdown Sports Girls Summer State Tournament. It’s only an exhibition, of course, and not every team will have its complete lineup available. Regardless, the competition will be fierce as 30 teams from all four classes gather on Sunday at Hopkins High School beginning at 9 a.m. Here are five games you’ll want to see plus the complete game schedule for the event.
Class 4A – Lakeville North vs Maple Grove (10:05 a.m. on court 4)
If you like post match-ups you’re going to love watching 6’3 Trinity Wilson Trinity Wilson 6'3" | PF Lakeville North | 2024 State MN of Lakeville North do battle with 6’2 Audrey Kormann Audrey Kormann 6'2" | PF Maple Grove | 2023 State MN of Maple Grove. Kormann had an excellent season last winter as she cemented her place in a strong Crimson lineup. Wilson is the breakout player of the last 12 months and she has been gathering Division 1 offers of late. Both had strong AAU campaigns.
The guard play in this one should be excellent, as well. University of Minnesota commit Kennedy Klick Kennedy Klick 6'0" | CG Maple Grove | 2023 State MN , a Top 10 prospect in the Class of 2023, leads the way for Maple Grove along with the highly-versatile sophomore Jordan Ode Jordan Ode 5'11" | CG Maple Grove | 2025 State MN , who has also been collecting offers lately. Top 10 junior forward Claire Stern Claire Stern 6'0" | SF Maple Grove | 2024 State MN is working her way back from a back injury and looked great last week. Lakeville North will counter with veterans Emy Wolkow Emy Wolkow 5'11" | CG Lakeville North | 2023 State MN and Haley Bryant Haley Bryant 5'7" | CG Lakeville North | 2023 State MN in the back court along with Top 20 junior Gabby Betton Gabby Betton 5'9" | CG Lakeville North | 2024 State MN (top photo). Class 3A – Stewartville vs Benilde-St. Margaret’s (10:05 a.m. on court 3)
BSM boasts one of the most talent-laden lineups we’ve seen at the Class 3A level. Olivia Olson Olivia Olson 6'1" | CG Benilde-SM | 2024 State MN is back from injury now and the #1 player in the Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2024 can do it all. She may have missed out on a second Team USA opportunity due to injury but she appears healthy now. Standout guard Kendall McGee Kendall McGee 5'10" | CG Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2025 State MN recently earned an offer from the University of Louisville and the #2 prospect in the Class of 2025 should be worth the price of admission. Top 10 sophomore Zahara Bishop Zahara Bishop 5'10" | CG Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2025 State MN , senior Sierre Lumpkin Sierre Lumpkin 5'10" | SF Benilde-SM | 2023 State MN and sophomore Kate Kapsner Kate Kapsner 5'11" | SF Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2025 State MN are all high-quality performers new coach Tim Ellefsen has at his disposal.
Stewartville counters with a talented lineup led by two veteran performers and two very gifted youngsters. The Tigers are led by incoming seniors Haylie Strum Haylie Strum 5'6" | CG Stewartville | 2023 State MN and Keeley Steele Keeley Steele 5'8" | CG Stewartville | 2023 State MN , two highly-competitive, super-quick guards. A pair of incoming freshmen represent the future of the program and both are strong D1 candidates: Jayci Rath Jayci Rath 6'1" | PF Stewartville | 2026 State MN is a long, athletic forward and Audrey Shindelar Audrey Shindelar 6'0" | CG Stewartville | 2026 State MN is an uber-talented point guard. These kids are the real deal. Athletic guards Savannah Hedin Savannah Hedin 5'9" | SG Stewartville | 2024 State MN and Taylor Klement Taylor Klement 5'9" | SG Stewartville | 2024 State MN bring a ton to the table, as well.
Class 2A – Duluth Marshall vs Perham (11:10 a.m. on court 5)
We’ve been awaiting the arrival of 2028 phenom Chloe Johnson Chloe Johnson 5'11" | PG Duluth Marshall | 2028 MN on the high school scene and now the incoming 7th grader is ready to show what she can do at the varsity level with Duluth Marshall. Chloe has been playing five years up on the AAU circuit of late and has proven that she can be incredibly effective competing with the big girls. The Hilltoppers boast a young and gifted lineup with Top 15 sophomore Regan Juenemann Regan Juenemann 5'9" | CG Duluth Marshall | 2025 State MN , freshmen standouts Ava Meierotto Ava Meierotto 5'5" | CG Marshall | 2026 MN and Anna Saari Anna Saari 5'3" | PG Duluth Marshall | 2026 State MN , and junior guard Ada Skafte Ada Skafte 5'7" | SG Duluth Marshall | 2024 State MN leading the way.
Speaking of excelling this summer, Perham’s potent one-two punch has been exceptionally good with West Central United on the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit. Senior point guard Mya Morris Mya Morris 5'7" | PG Perham | 2023 State MN is a crafty floor general with great handles, nice court vision and the ability to make shots from very long distances. Incoming junior Willow Thiel Willow Thiel 5'11" | PF Perham | 2024 State MN is a no-nonsense forward with power, mobility and touch. She knows how to make things happen around the basket and is a terrific rebounder. Coach T.J. Super will have his girls ready to compete for sure.
Class 1A – Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart vs Mountain Iron-Buhl (2:25 p.m. on court 4)
Nobody has had a better spring and summer season in 2022 than Jordan Zubich Jordan Zubich 5'11" | SG Mountain Iron-Buhl | 2024 State MN , whose long-bomb shooting prowess has been the subject of plenty of video highlight reels and much discussion among Division 1 coaches. The Mountain Iron-Buhl guard has numerous scholarship offers to show for her efforts. She’ll lead a Rangers squad that includes standout senior guard Sage Ganyo Sage Ganyo 5'4" | CG Mountain Iron-Buhl | 2023 State MN and junior Hali Savela Hali Savela 5'8" | CG Mountain Iron-Buhl | 2024 State MN , who emerged last season as a force to be reckoned with.
Despite another injury to Southwest Minnesota State commit Alison Milbrandt (shoulder), BLHS will bring a solid lineup to the Breakdown event. That includes the formidable twin guards Rachel Kottke Rachel Kottke 5'8" | CG Buffalo Lake-H-S | 2024 State MN and Kristi Kottke Kristi Kottke 5'8" | CG Buffalo Lake-H-S | 2024 State MN , a pair of workhorses who should be scholarship-level players in college. Nobody puts in more effort than the Kottkes, a pair of multi-dimensional athletes who can score in multiple ways and defend at a high level. We’re intrigued, as well, by incoming freshman Lily Hubin, who has been very good this summer for the Minnesota Rise.
Bonus game – Chaska vs Minnetonka (10:05 a.m. on court 2)
It will be fun to see how things are shaping up for Minnetonka now that new coach Brian Cosgriff has had the team for summer workouts. The former Hopkins bench boss certainly has a lot to work with. Forward Aaliyah Crump Aaliyah Crump 6'1" | SF Minnetonka | 2025 State MN , the #1-rated prospect in the Class of 2025, is coming off a splendid AAU season as is 2024 Top-5 prospect Tori McKinney Tori McKinney 6'1" | CG Minnetonka | 2024 State MN at point guard. Seniors Tootie Cade and Megan Corkery, juniors Grace Hamdorf Grace Hamdorf 5'9" | SG Minnetonka | 2024 State MN and Sidney Reed Sidney Reed 6'2" | SF Minnetonka | 2024 State MN , and freshman Lanelle Wright Lanelle Wright 5'8" | PG Minnetonka | 2026 State MN are ready to step up into more prominent roles.
Chaska, the 2021 state Class 4A champions, return point guard extraordinaire Kennedy Sanders Kennedy Sanders 5'8" | CG Chaska | 2023 State MN , a Top-5 prospect in the Class of 2023 who has committed to the University of Colorado. There’s nobody better when it comes to running an offense. She’s joined by seniors Anna Lenzen Anna Lenzen 5'9" | CG Chaska | 2023 State MN (University of Mary) and Ashley Schuelke Ashley Schuelke 5'10" | SF Chaska | 2023 State MN along with juniors Aubrey Heyer Aubrey Heyer 5'10" | SG Chaska | 2024 State MN and Josie Lakosky Josie Lakosky 5'8" | SG Chaska | 2023 State MN , who will probably form the core lineup for the Hawks this winter.
