Continue ReadingIt feels as if it was yesterday when the 2022 travel season commenced on the heels of state championship season. But the AAU slate for the year has essentially reached its conclusion with one more live period.
Out of the many events that occurred across the country in conjunction with said live period was ATL Summer Slam hosted by Insider Exposure. It took place at several venues – including Suwanee Sports Academy and welcomed teams from all over the country (and some from even outside of the United States).
We at Prep Girls Hoops made the trip to Atlanta for the first day of the three-day get-together. As expected, North and South Carolina made their presences known in front of the many college coaches and scouts that were on hand.
Jocelyne Grier Jocelyne Grier 5'8" | CG Winston-Salem Christian National | 2025 State NC – 2025 – North Mecklenburg HS – FBC Carolina Hawks 16U Parks – Grier had herself a breakout season for a Vikings team that finished with a 24-4 record along with making a run in the 4A NCHSAA playoffs. Grier combines scoring proficiency with aggressiveness, speed and an ability to take care of the ball. Defensively, she is a constant threat to compile steals. Her fearless play and willingness to play on contact will put her at the line for many a free throw attempt. She scored 16 points in what was a hard-fought matchup for FBC Carolina Hawks 16U Parks against Arkansas Select TTG 2024.
Ahri Scott Ahri Scott 5'6" | SG Westside | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Westside HS – FBC Carolina Hawks 16U Parks – Scott has got a lot of skills and championship experience. After all, she is a standout on a Rams team that has won the last two SCHSL 4A championships. She has no problems shooting from long range and plays with a high basketball IQ which can enable her to stay out of foul trouble. Scott plays primarily in the backcourt positions and is listed at 5-foot-4. Scott also displays how effective she is as a defender with how she assists on double teams to put opposing ball carriers in uncomfortable predicaments.
Trinity Nesbitt Trinity Nesbitt 5'10" | PF Woodmont | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Woodmont HS – FBC Carolina Hawks 16U Parks – Prep Girls Hoops remembers seeing Nesbitt not too long ago during the team camp month of June as the Wildcats participated in a meet at Presbyterian College. Nesbitt helped the 5A Wildcats to an 18-10 record along with going 5-3 in Region 1-AAAAA. Two elements to that were her scoring and rebounding as she presents a threat to post double-doubles on a game by game basis. Nesbitt also has a high basketball IQ and will draw contact to place herself at the free throw line. She scored seven points – all in the second half – of a competitive contest Saturday morning with Arkansas Select TTG 2024.
Lili Booker Lili Booker 5'7" | CG Mallard Creek | 2024 State NC – 2024 – Cannon School – ETA Thunder 2023 Campos – Booker may play for a Tennessee-based travel team, but North Carolina is where she butters her basketball bread at Cannon School in Concord. She previously ran on the grassroots circuit with Lady Attack Elite and has also played lacrosse. Booker presents problems for opponents with her ball handling and ball distribution skills and how well she runs the floor can particularly be seen in transition. Defensively, she is a consistent threat to gather steals and go the other way with the rock. Booker will put many a crooked number on a scoreboard as consistent as she is. The college coaches that were on hand for this weekend’s live period may want to take one more look at Booker before she enters the NCAA ranks in two years.
