The end of the summer in New Jersey brings with it the annual Hoops4MS event and this year has quite the stacked lineup from the Tri-State area. Having already talked about Team White’s roster for the 2023/2024 teams, it’s time to finish our team preview.
Amarilis Shubick – St. Thomas Aquinas (2024)
Shubick is a repeat customer for PGH NJ as she’s a bright young talent who can shoot the lights out of the gym. She resembles a 3&D player for us, a really great shooter who can defend just as well. Her passing skills have also stood out, which has been a great addition to her game. With roughly 2/3rds of her scoring coming from the perimeter, she just needs to continue to work on getting open looks and shooting in transition.
Shariah Baynes – Paul VI (2024)
Baynes is one of two Paul VI players on this roster and is one of a select few players from South Jersey representing in the event. This is going to expose her to so many people from North Jersey and that exposure will pay dividends. Her role on the Eagles is going to increase coming into this season as she’s a definite starter with importance in a few areas. She’s improving as a shooter, working through the summer on that. Additionally, she’s pushed the envelope defensively, getting stops and challenging opponents.
Zahra Alexander – Rutgers Prep (2024)
Alexander is a player we just talked about, showcasing on film how her aggressive defense is to her advantage in AAU ball. That will translate well to the Argonauts during the season as from what we’ve seen, she’s been putting in the work. She’s showing great effort defensively and can absolutely ball out offensively. There’s no question her ability, her ball handling skills, her competitiveness on the floor. She just needs to put the pieces together consistently to click on all cylinders.
Eva Andrews – Paul VI (2024)
Once Paul VI’s current star, Hannah Hidalgo graduates this coming spring, this is Andrews’ team and she’s done more than enough to earn that right. You’re looking at the second-highest returning scorer, a top scorer on the Eagles last season and a great skillset of a player with speed to burn on the floor. Andrews is quick on her feet and her mind, knowing where to go with the ball when. Her court awareness is stellar, her feel for the game shows you how much she loves it, and it shows in her overall production.
