Team: North Dakota 16U Green
NDAttack coached by Mark Wiest and Jordyn Jossart had a great showing at the Dakota Challenge this weekend in Sioux Falls, SD. They went 4-0 to claim the Championship in the 10th Grade “Blue Division” by knocking off SoDak Heat, Washington Warriors, Crossfire South-Corley and Swarm Batta. The team consists of a little bit of everything from around North Dakota. Class “A” and “B” players from the East, West and even Lemmon, SD. Let’s take a look.
Top Standout:
Mataeya Mathern Mataeya Mathern 6'0" | SG Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier | 2024 State ND : 5’9″ SG Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 2024- Mataeya stood out to me for many reasons, one in particular her motor never stopped and she is aggressive as they come. Mataeya is very dominate at getting herself to the hoop and pulling the ball down. She also has a very good sense of what is going on at all times, and being a contributor on the court wherever she is. She possesses a little bit of everything from shooting, driving and tough defensively, she is a key player on the court. There is always something to be said about a player who works hard, and Mataeya is just that….handworker. She will continue to rise in the 2024 ranks, and she is going to make a lot of noise for EKM this year.
Defensive Standout:
Peyton Gette Peyton Gette 5'3" | PG Kindred | 2024 State ND : 5’3’’ PG Kindred 2024- Peyton is all around fun to watch, and one of the hardest workers on the court to say the least. She has a ton of energy and used every ounce of it during these games. One thing that stands out about her, she is a very tough on-ball defender and has great speed to her. Peyton is all over the court and knows how to put the pressure on the guards all game long. Don’t sleep on her, she loves to look for the steal and run it down the court for a lay-up. She is a solid prospect, and is a good contributor offensively and defensively. She definitely makes the other team earn their points.
Offensive Standout:
Jayden Wiest Jayden Wiest 5'5" | CG Mandan | 2024 State ND : 5’5’’ CG Mandan 2024- It’s great to see Jayden back on the court doing what she loves. Over the last year she has spent a tremendous amount of time in the gym focusing on game and it’s paying off. Jayden is a quality guard who sees the court and knows everything that is going on and pushes the ball well. She is a seasoned vet at running an offense and showed she can knock down shots from 15-20’ fluidly. Defensively she moves very well side to side, and has a ton of energy to her, needless to say she’s all over the ball and is tough. She had a good showing in Sioux Falls over the weekend, if this is a glimpse of what is to come for her this next year will be exciting. I have her for “Breakout Candidate” in 22-23’
Notable Players:
Allie Kohn Allie Kohn 5'7" | CG Lemmon | 2024 State SD : 5’7’’ CG Lemmon, SD 2024- Allie can cause a lot of problems offensively for other teams. She has the ability to hit threes from all-around the arch which she showed this last year for her Varsity team as well. Not only is she a skilled shooter, but she sees the court like a veteran, and knows how to run an offense skillfully. Defensively she moves her feet really well, is aggressive and always pressuring the offense. She is a key player for Attack and Lemmon and will only get better. She has many plus sides to her game, and I see her being on the college radar.
Hailey Markel Hailey Markel 5'8" | SG Mandan | 2024 State ND : 5’8″ SG Mandan 2024- Hailey is a good shooter from 10-20’ and has a quick release to her shot. She has really improved on her ball-handling ability especially going left, and has a ton of confidence driving the lane. She likes take her defender 1 on 1, or even splitting defenders and putting the ball off the glass for a lay-up. Hailey like Peyton has great speed to her, moves very well on the court and loves to get into the paint and work. She has really came along way this last year and you can see it is paying off. She will be moving up in the ranks throughout the year, and has the ability to be a quality guard at the next level.
Jessica Mogen Jessica Mogen 5'9" | CG Watford City | 2024 State ND : 5’9’ CG Watford City 2024- Jessica is a familiar name in the Dakotas when it comes to basketball, and for all the right reasons. She an all-around skilled athlete that can do a little of everything on the court. She has a great vertical to her, and uses it very well in the paint ripping down boards off the rim. Offensively she is a skilled shooter and can drive to the hoop and is aggressive when doing so. She is a great playmaker, and a key player for both ND Attack and Watford City alike. I can see her putting up even bigger numbers this next year for the Wolves.
Avery Lunde Avery Lunde 5'9" | SG Minot | 2024 State ND : 5’7’’ Minot 2024- Avery is another one of those players who goes 100% all game long, and is athletic as they come. Any coach can respect the effort she puts in offensively and defensively. All 4 games of the tournament she was all over the court contributing on both ends. She has great ball-handling abilities, can bring the ball up the court and is a good shooter as well. Avery has great drive, strength, and a “team first” attitude to add to her list. Not to mention her ability to put herself in any play whether its scoring or putting down rebounds, she is there.
Kylie Simpson Kylie Simpson 5'9" | SG Bottineau | 2024 State ND : 5’8’’ SG Bottineau 2024- Kylie is another top guard who showed her shooting skills over the weekend. I was really impressed with her shot and how she could hit from all over including deeper threes. She moves very well getting up and down the court, and uses her size good in the paint to crash the boards for a rebounds as well. She can seem somewhat quiet on the court at times but don’t let that fool you, if you leave her open she will take advantage of the opportunity. She has a lot of athleticism to her and is a quality prospect on the court.
