That was certainly the case in metro Atlanta at War Games ATL. Hosted by Insider Exposure, several venues were utilized for the three-day event – including the Suwanee Sports Academy northeast of town in Gwinnett County. Teams from all over the country descended upon the Peach State for what was three days of exciting basketball.
We at Prep Girls Hoops also made the trip to take in the festivities. Several of those teams had longer journeys to get to Atlanta than others – we look at a few of them here.
Zyaira Miller – 2023 – Walnut Hills HS – FBC Midwest 17U – Prior to joining one of the many FBC travel teams around the country, Miller was playing AAU basketball last offseason for All Ohio Xpress 17U. Primarily, she thrives playing the two. Miller has previously worked to make 3-pointers a more key element to her overall game. Defense is another one of Miller’s strong suits. Miller can work to find her way through defenses en route to the basket and has her sights set on a strong close to her high school career as the 2022-23 regular season draws ever so closer.
Kyla Irby Kyla Irby 5'9" | SG Summit Country Day | 2023 State OH – 2023 – Summit Country Day – FBC Midwest 17U – Irby is used to competing on basketball hardwood as that same hardwood is also used for volleyball – her other sport of choice. She is effective in running the open floor and displays how fearless she is when attacking the rim. Irby can also be effective when shooting from behind the 3-point line and keeps bringing effort and energy to every game she competes in. Defensively, she displays impeccable footwork and keeps her arms and hands outstretched so as to make opposing ball handlers uncomfortable and force them into possible turnover situations.
Carly Prows Carly Prows 6'1" | SF Mason | 2023 State OH – 2023 – Mason HS – FBC Midwest 17U – By now, Ohio’s high school basketball landscape has to know about Prows. The rising senior is listed at 6-foot-1 and is versatile in the sense that she can gather minutes as either a guard or as a forward and wing. As effective as she can be from behind the 3-point arc, she sees where an offensive play will go at times before it is set in motion, so she gets herself in position to make the play. Prows will also frustrate many an opposing ball carrier with her ability to steal the ball and is adept as an offensive rebounder.
Avery Treadwell Avery Treadwell 6'2" | C Bearden | 2023 State TN – 2023 – Bearden HS – ETA Thunder 2023 Campos – One thing a coach cannot teach is height and Treadwell presents plenty of it at a towering 6-foot-3. One would expect she would be effective near the rim as a scorer and rebounder. That she is. But she combines those skills with a midrange jump shot. Length is another attribute that she possesses and it can be used to get her hands on the ball as a defender and disrupt an opposing team’s passing lanes. Treadwell had herself a big game against The Hoop Society Team Spaz as she scored 22 points in one of the more competitive matchups of Friday’s schedule. Treadwell boasts several Division I offers including Florida State, West Virginia, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
