Continue ReadingI always get a kick out of seeing new talent because over a decade ago, I started pumping up “talent is everywhere” which I often hashtag yet with the abundance of new voices popping up and saying whatever fits the narrative, I had to add an amendment, “if you know what you’re looking at” so I actually know, my record on and off the court speaks volumes so here are some new Texas faces I hadn’t seen, did have a roster and kept it moving, or saw bits and pieces of
Sedelia Wilson Larkin-6’0 SF (Cotulla) SA Finest Lyssa
Larkin impressed me immediately with her constant movement in the paint. Her hands and footwork were nice yet she understands how to use her college-ready frame and overpower players on the inside. She also did a good job of both rebounding, on both ends, and running the floor. also on both ends but her timing to block, alter and (or) deflect shots JUST DID IT for me
Emma Shumacher-5’11 PG (Tivy) SA Finest Lyssa
Shumacher was definitely a cobbler as she made things happen and comprehended things nicely, you may want to Google the word cobbler. She is long and athletic, that is the base and she not only creates her shot, her jumper is nice, but she also does a good job attacking the basket. I also enjoyed her ability to “see the floor” and make passes in traffic
Eyimofe Olawepo-5’7 SF (Mansfield Timberview) Girls Ball Hard Too
Olawepo did it for me almost immediately as she would grab a rebound and go C2C, that’s coast to coast, and when you add her athleticism, she not only played the passing lane but some solid “on the ball defense”. To top that off, her deceptive first step enabled her to get by defenders to attack and finish and her pull-up jumper was nice
Chloe Kostka Chloe Kostka TX -5’8 SG ( McKinney North) Platinum BIQ Walker/Alexander
Kostka is heady and understands how to get hers in the flow. She also plays within herself and when you can do the simple things that turn out to be huge, that’s big. She saw the floor, handled the ball under pressure, and did a good job attacking the basket and finishing after contact. She also showed she could drop it from outside
Dakota Dale-5’10 PF (Westside) Houston Elite 16U
Dale attends my daughter’s old high school and just seeing the school’s name brought back some memories, mostly good yet her boing “long and athletic” that’s still the base, is also good as she did a good job of not only rebounding on both ends of the court, she also defended well. Factor in she has good timing to block shots and some good upside
Emily Lee-5’4 PG (Manvel) Texas Southern Flames 16U
Lee falls into that #sizedontmatter because she can play and although I rarely see her club team, I was glad to have finally caught them. Her release is smooth and quick, yeah that “catch and shoot” always makes me smile, but she also showed she could the ball and attack the basket or attack and dish
Micah Lovelace-5’9 SF (Wylie HS) WBA ‘ last=”] 16U
Lovelace is also, you guessed it, “long and athletic” and let me start with the pressure she applies on defense. That in itself will raise next-level eyebrows as she goes after loose balls, both on the floor and off the rim, yes, she rebounds on both ends of the court. Factor in that she scores on putbacks as well as around the basket, and can even take the defender off the dribble
Kamryn McLaurin Kamryn McLaurin 5'10" | SF Clear Brook | 2025 State TX -5’9 SF (Clear Brook) Texas Lady Stormbreakers Gold
McLaurin has some impressive upside because of her intensity, as well as her being “long and athletic”. I say that profile a lot because I love it but more importantly, so do many college coaches, I give evaluations, and they give scholarships so when you start adding intangibles as well as upside, she scores off the dribble, rebounds on both ends and blocks shots, I already mentioned her intensity, well just keep watching
