Not really. I just realized I posted this article on the top 3 ranked Power Forwards from the class 2025 without writing an introductory paragraph and the not only violates the format I am required to use to post on this site but also violates everything I ever learned about writing composition. My teachers would have all been ashamed. So I had to come back and fix that.
Leah Macy Leah Macy 6'3" | PF Bethlehem | 2025 State KY – 6’2″ Mercy Kentucky Premier EYBL
Think of a Major Women’s College Basketball Program. Yes. They are recruiting Macy. OK. Maybe not. But odds are they are or they will be soon. A few coaches I have spoken to say they would take her right now if they could. Others at highly respected programs estimate their chances of landing her think they have no shot.
One thing is certain. Macy will be playing somewhere. She clearly loves the game and is putting in the effort to get better than she was yesterday. Any team of high school players with her on it has a chance to win against any competition. She plays with such poise and has so much skill that she could easily play any Froncourt Position, but she seems most suited for the 4. Perhaps she could even play Guard but I think she likes the chance to mix it up in the paint too much to make the transition.
Looking at her Freshman season stats, you will find that four players in the Commonwealth made more two-point baskets than she did (244), and three of them graduated. She was 5th in the state in Field Goal Percentage, averaging 20.1 points and 12.3 rebounds per game by collecting more rebounds than anyone in the state (393). She made 79.4% of her free throws (28th in the state) and even made 31.5% of her three-pointers.
Grace Mbugua Grace Mbugua 6'4" | PF Danville Christian | 2025 State KY – 6’4″ Danville Christian
You won’t find Mbugua playing on any of the travel circuits or chasing after any scholarship offers from multiple programs because she has already committed herself to Liberty University. She wants to continue to pursue her education in a faith-centered environment on the next level. Sorry to tell you Coach, but this one is taken.
The Flames got a good one too. She is extremely long and athletic with excellent speed, ball skills, and a multi-faceted game. Before I saw her play at last season’s All “A” State Tournament I had recently discovered the Stats Leaders feature on the KHSAA website and discovered she led the Commonwealth in Rebounding (14.9 per game). I was expecting a player built like an Offensive Lineman and out of the locker room walks a player that looks more like Lisa Leslie.
At least one Coach I spoke to this summer believes Mbugua should be listed as our top prospect because she has a WNBA-type body and was quite unstoppable in the game we were watching. He has a point. In addition to the rebounding, she did average 16.9 points per game on 46.6% field goal and 63.9% free throw shooting last season. But our site is about ranking prospects for College potential, not Pro potential, and right now she is not as skilled as the other top players. But the sky is the limit.
Abby Gilbert Abby Gilbert 6'2" | PF Jackson County | 2025 State KY – 6’2″ Jackson County
I saw Gilbert play four times last season, once against one of the best and deepest frontcourts in the Commonwealth. She always impressed me with her versatility and tenacity regardless of score or competition level. She is equally comfortable in the low-post, high-post, or perimeter and has the skills to attack any sort of defense thrown at her.
She has a long and lean frame that she uses to seal off opponents inside or to sprint past from outside. Her skill development and physical development moving forward will have a role to play in where she ends up at the next level and what sort of role she will play. With the right skills, she could be a versatile 3 with great size, and with the addition of some extra bulk, she could be a high-level 4.
Last season she averaged 14 points and 10.2 rebounds per game 31st in the state grabbing 306 boards (22nd in the state). She had the 7th highest field goal percentage (61.2%) making 177 shots (17th). She made 63.6% of her free throws and 30.8% from three-point range.
