You can put the best defenders on Waller, but she’s still going to put the ball in the basket. She is such a high IQ player that can do a little bit of everything. Her shot selection is great, she sees the floor and makes phenomenal passes, she can handle heavy pressure, and she defends. If you look at what Waller was able to accomplish in her freshman season, it’s easy to see why she is a Division-I talent. She led her team to a 21-6 while averaging 15.8 PPG and shooting 51.9% overall. A 40.5% 3-point shooter, opposing teams have to respect Waller’s outside shooting ability. However, if you defend her too close, she can go right around her defender and either finish or draw fouls. When she gets to the free throw line, the percentage for her to knock them down is even more impressive than her FG percentages, and she actually led the state last season as she shot 90.2% from the charity stripe, so you certainly have to respect Waller’s scoring abilities at all levels.
Highlights
Murphy is such a fun player to watch. Her love for the game and her talent just shine when she’s on the floor. She has excellent handles and really controls the tempo of the game. She also has deep range from 3 and forces defenders to pick her up as soon as she passes half court. Murphy has really strong court vision and she delivers passes seamlessly. Defensively, she never backs down from any challenge that she might face. She can apply a lot of pressure and she reads the passing lanes well. She crashes the boards and can come up with multiple rebounds in any given game from pure effort. Murphy has a lot of speed and athleticism as well. She is poised to continue on her personal success from last season while also helping her team continue building on the excellent season they had last year.
I really loved watching Campbell with her Richmond Heat squad this past Spring and Summer. She is such a smart player with a ton of talent. Campbell can make passes that a lot of players don’t even see. She has excellent court awareness and her high basketball IQ is obvious when you watch her compete. She is constantly locating her teammates and delivering perfect passes. On top of her passing abilities, she also can really handle the ball and she can score in a variety of ways. She makes great drives to the basket, she can stop and pop, or she can knock down outside shots. Campbell is a really solid defender and rebounder as well. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see her produce a few triple-doubles this season as she can rack up double-digit points, assists, rebounds, or steals in any given game.
Highlights
Crowe is quick and she utilizes her length so well. She does a great job of getting out into the passing lanes and coming up with steals. She also crashes the boards really well and she goes after rebounds strong. Crowe can defend any position and she consistently plays hard. Offensively, she is a really good outside shooter. She catches the ball ready to shoot and she moves to the open areas on the perimeter. Crowe is also a good passer. She makes great passes inside and down the floor in transition. Bardstown graduated 2 excellent players in Jaileyah Cotton and Kadence Walls, who also led them in scoring last season, so expect Crowe to play a much bigger role for the Lady Tigers this season.
Carter is the definition of heart over height. She isn’t the tallest player on the court, but she’s going to play harder than just about anyone else. Defensively, she makes the opposing team work. If the player she’s guarding relaxes for even a second, Carter’s going to steal the ball. She was one of the most impressive on-ball defenders that I saw last season. Offensively, Carter has a good outside shot, but she utilizes shot fakes so well to give herself even better scoring opportunities. She really creates for her teammates as well. She is excellent at drawing help defense on her drives and then kicking to the open player. Carter’s passes are strong and she should have a big sophomore season ahead of her.
