Continue ReadingIt’s difficult to describe just how well Anna Lenzen Anna Lenzen 5'9" | CG Chaska | 2023 State MN and Kennedy Sanders Kennedy Sanders 5'8" | CG Chaska | 2023 State MN played together on Sunday. The Chaska seniors were simply stunning in leading the Hawks to the Class 4A championship at the Breakdown USA Summer State Tournament at Hopkins. The pair averaged – yes, we said averaged – 27 points per game each as Chaska knocked off Minnetonka, Lakeville North and Hopkins to take home the bragging rights. For that we are happy to bestow Co-MVP status to Anna and Kennedy who lead the way in our All-Tournament Team selections.
First Team
Kennedy Sanders Kennedy Sanders 5'8" | CG Chaska | 2023 State MN – 2023 guard, Chaska (Colorado)
What can you say about Kennedy that hasn’t already been said? She is simply one of the very best point guards around. She led the Hawks to the 2021 state high school championship with one of the most skillful, most gritty performances you’ll ever see. There was considerably less on the line at Sunday’s summer gathering but Kennedy was no less impressive. In addition to her usual excellent facilitation, Sanders put up 28 points against Minnetonka, 23 versus Lakeville North and 29 against Hopkins in the championship game. It was special.
Anna Lenzen Anna Lenzen 5'9" | CG Chaska | 2023 State MN – 2023 guard, Chaska (U Mary)
While Sanders is no stranger to the limelight, Lenzen has had to be very, very patient in waiting for her turn to shine. Anna had to wait until her junior year to play significant minutes at Chaska, and she made the most of the opportunity last winter averaging about 7 points per game. What we saw Sunday from the #33-ranked prospect in the senior class was something completely different. She made six triples and scored 31 points in the Hawks opening win over Minnetonka and followed that with 24 against Lakeville North and 27 against Hopkins. With Mallory Heyer having now moved on to the University of Minnesota, Chaska is going to have a different look and Lenzen is clearly a crucial piece of the new puzzle.
Audrey Kormann Audrey Kormann 6'2" | PF Maple Grove | 2023 State MN – 2023 post, Maple Grove
Slow and steady. That has been the story of Audrey’s development as a basketball player. The big post has improved every single year to the point where now she is a vital piece of whatever Maple Grove ends up accomplishing this season. Sure Kennedy Klick Kennedy Klick 6'0" | CG Maple Grove | 2023 State MN and Jordan Ode Jordan Ode 5'11" | CG Maple Grove | 2025 State MN and Claire Stern Claire Stern 6'0" | SF Maple Grove | 2024 State MN will draw more headlines, but Audrey’s low-post presence will be absolutely crucial for the Crimson. Kormann averaged 12 points per game on Sunday against three big-time opponents showing once again that she is up to the task. Audrey is a scholarship-level prospect who is expected to announce her college commitment in the near future.
Kelly Boyle Kelly Boyle 5'7" | CG Hopkins | 2023 State MN – 2023 guard, Hopkins
Kelly had her home gym buzzing on Sunday. That’s what happens when the senior guard gets it rolling from beyond the arc. Boyle, ranked #41 in Minnesota’s Class of 2023, is one of the state’s premier shooters. Her work is often overshadowed, though, because she is surrounded on the Royals roster by a plethora of high major prospects. But on a day when Taylor Woodson Taylor Woodson 6'0" | PF Hopkins | 2023 State #28 Nation MN and Nunu Agara Nunu Agara 6'1" | PF Hopkins | 2023 State #32 Nation MN did not suit up the three-point game was of more importance which meant it was Kelly’s turn to shine. She buried seven three-pointers against Centennial in a 24-point performance as Hopkins made it to the championship game.
Marisa Frost Marisa Frost 5'8" | PG Centennial | 2024 State MN – 2024 guard, Centennial
Is there anything that Frost doesn’t do well? The cerebral point guard, who is ranked #8 in the Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2024 prospect rankings, is one of the smoothest operators we’ve seen. She’s just so good with the basketball, makes such quality decisions, and does everything with such poise and precision. If you’re into fundamental basketball, which we most definitely are, it is a thing of beauty. Marisa is one of those players who doesn’t have to score to be great. On Sunday she poured in 22 points against East Ridge just to remind one and all that she is capable of that, too.
Second Team
Gabby Betton Gabby Betton 5'9" | CG Lakeville North | 2024 State MN – 2024 guard, Lakeville North
Trinity Wilson Trinity Wilson 6'3" | PF Lakeville North | 2024 State MN – 2024 post, Lakeville North
Brynn Senden Brynn Senden 5'6" | PG Wayzata | 2023 State MN – 2023 guard, Wayzata
Sophie Hawkinson Sophie Hawkinson 5'8" | CG Wayzata | 2025 State MN – 2025 guard, Wayzata
