Jenna Twedt Jenna Twedt 5'8" | SG Benton | 2023 State IA
The Benton Community wing may not be the most athletic kid, but she has more than enough basketball IQ to succeed in high school and beyond. She uses her change of pace well and stops on a dime which helps her create space to get her jumper off. Nothing she does is flashy, but all her moves have a purpose and succeed often. She can score anywhere from the rim to the 3-point line, and she’s gotten better since she’s been in high school.
Ella Bockenstedt Ella Bockenstedt 6'0" | PF Marion | 2023 State IA
The Marion forward is a versatile athlete on both ends of the floor. Defensively, Bockenstedt excels around the paint with her length and athleticism. Bockenstedt can also survive defending on the perimeter as well. She can move her feet and cover plenty of ground. Offensively, the rising senior can also do different things. She has a jumper that she can stretch out to 15 feet and make consistently. Bockenstedt also has a proficient back-to-the-basket game. She has multiple moves that she can score with using both hands.
The Iowa City West guard does an excellent job turning defense into offense in a heartbeat. She’s more athletic than people think, and she uses that to get her hands on passes and get into transition offense. Her speed in transition is unique, and there won’t be many kids who can deter her from getting easy points from her steals. She reads the game well and sometimes seems like she knows where the ball will end up before the offense does. It’s fun to watch.
Haidyn Hull Haidyn Hull 5'9" | SG Grinnell | 2023 State IA
The main thing Hull does is shoot, but she has excellent moves that stem from what her jumper does to the defense. When a kid can hit eight 3-pointers in a game, teams will try to run her off the line, and one thing I liked from watching her film was a fake dribble hand-off. It shows that she knows how to attack defenses who want to take her out of the game and that she has counters to teams that want to change her rhythm. I love watching players who can counter defenses. Hull is playing chess on the floor.
