The Orlando Splash was held July 20-22 and was loaded with talent from all over the country. Here are the five players we saw regardless of class at the event that stood out as some of the top players.
Georgia Tech should be excited about the floor spacing that their class of 2023 guard Nicole Melious will provide with her accurate perimeter shooting. This weekend Melious showed she was comfortable shooting off the catch and the dribble. As she moves to the ACC program, her confidence in shooting the ball from deep should prove to be a nice offensive weapon.
The term power guard explains Cori Allen and her evolving game. Her already well-documented offensive transformation is just a part of the expansion of her play. Each time out she’s showing advanced perimeter skills and the confidence to take and make tough shots when her team needs it. This weekend was another impressive showing for the class of the 2023 guard.
Haylen McElhiney

McElhiney is a young wing with elite size and the comfort to step out and shoot the ball on the perimeter on the catch and off the bounce. She has great length and a high release which translates well to the college level despite not being in high school yet. When you mix in her promising athleticism it seems as though McElhiney is a lock to play at a high D-1 school.
This weekend at the Orlando Splash, class of 2024 forward Amiah Hargrove showed that she is an asset playing both inside and out. As she continues to develop her perimeter game, Hargrove is still more comfortable when catching the ball from 12-15 feet the ball on the floor and drive to the basket, which works because of her strength and physicality. Hargrove was a consistent factor defensively as well as she was able to rebound and defend at a high level.
This was an impressive showing for Byars as she showed the ability to do a little of everything inside. She is a strong interior presence and a willing defender who is also a capable finisher offensively. When she is active and engaged she can be a productive player, the next step for Byars is showing more facing the rim or becoming true back to the basket scoring threat.
