I say that a lot because no matter how many times I say it, many don’t and never will get it so if you happen to go to huge events, try and observe as much as you can because THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE
Taneya Howard Taneya Howard 5'11" | PF Broken Arrow | 2023 State OK -5’10 PF (Broken Arrow) Banshees 2023 OK
Howard is “long and athletic” and that will always be the base and after watching her progression on the court for 3 seasons, it was nice to see she added a variety of things. Her rebounding and on-the-ball defense were already there, and so was her timing to block shots yet she handles well in the open court and scores off the dribble. When you add she’s knocking down the midrange …
Jessica Runnel- 5’8 PG (Mount Carmel Academy) LA
Runnel does something I truly love to see and that’s “playing the passing lane” because all it takes is effort and desire, it’s not that hard yet for some reason it has become somewhat of a lost art. She also did a good job of setting the defender up to attack the basket, she did it with either hand and she finishes strongly. She also rebounded well, against taller players
Olivia Fernandez-5’9 PG (Riverbank) Team Creation 17U CA
Fernandez creates her shot well, under pressure, and her being able to knock the outside shot down, that gave her options and one of those options was to attack the rim which she did powerfully. She also finished after contact yet her FLOATA was equally impressive. She saw the floor, made solid passes, and did a good job defensively
Kerena Malone-6’0 C (Manteca) Team Creation 17U CA
Malone also falls into that “long and athletic” category and when you add that she stands at “the magic number” those 2 things will attract many next-level coaches. She uses her body well around the basket, nice moves and she finished after contact. She rebounded, on both ends, and scored on putbacks as well but her timing definitely added as she blocked or changed several shots
Brooke Smith-5’10 SF (Siloam Springs) Flight 2023 AR
Brooke had me tweet “don’t get shook by Brooke” on the PGH Circuit as she left me somewhat speechless the first time that I saw her. Her college-ready frame as well as her BATTLING for everything that came off the rim set it off at first, then she showed mid to long-range. She also scored on putbacks, she rebounds on both ends, and has nice “hands and footwork” yet she took defenders at will with the slight HEZ
Galatia Andrew Galatia Andrew 5'4" | PG HarBer | 2023 State AR -5’4 PG (Springdae Harber) Flight 2023 AR
Andrew was one of the most complete PGs I saw over the season and when you truly understand that the game starts at the 1, you might get it. She sees the floor, she threads the needle like a master seamstress, which means she throws blistering on the money passes in traffic. She scores off the dribble, and mid to long-range yet she also is vocal on the floor and when you make those around you better, that’s HUGE
