With over 360 names now included, we did our best to fully explore the state and find the best of the best. A disclaimer before we continue, if we happened to get a prospect’s position wrong, please let us know. We did our best to place players into the positions we thought they perform best at. With that being said, here are the top five combo guards in the 2023 class.
No. 1: Zoe Brooks Zoe Brooks 5'8" | CG St. John Vianney | 2023 State NJ – 5-8, St. John Vianney (No. 2 overall)
Brooks, the NC State commit, the top player now on St. John Vianney, one of the talks of the state, has lived up to all of the hype and then some. If you want a game-changing player on your team, Brooks is just that player, from her creativity in the lane, to her excellent court vision that allows her to get more teammates involved, to her effortless finishing in the lane. Top-to-bottom, she is a future professional star in the making.
No. 2: Rylee Drahos Rylee Drahos 5'7" | CG Shore | 2023 State NJ – 5-7, Shore (No. 11 overall)
Drahos had herself a year with Shore and elevated the team to a level that it hasn’t been in a bit. She’s the spark plug that this team has needed, a 20-point scorer, an electric perimeter shooter, a stellar defensive player, the whole nine yards. Drahos has felt what it’s like to be in the spotlight and has relished in it as we saw during the postseason. High school players don’t casually put up 40-point efforts, but Drahos is a different kind of player, a different level of player.
No. 3: Nya Marseille Nya Marseille CG Burlington Township | 2023 State NJ – Burlington Township (No. 51 overall)
In Marseille, we are looking at truly one of the best shot creators inside the lane in South Jersey and she’s more than got a seat at the table for the conversation of the best in the state. On average, Marseille was knocking down just over six free throws a game, so she earns her points when she gets the ball at the top of the key. With such a rapid spike in production, we’re curious to see how sustainable it is over another season, so that will be the big test this season.
No. 4: Katelyn Louro Katelyn Louro CG Monroe | 2023 State NJ – Monroe (No. 57 overall)
Either Monroe truly didn’t know what they had in Louro or everything clicked at the right time because Louro burst out of nowhere last season, showing great production across the board. She definitely favored playing inside the arc on offense, but on defense, she fared much better as a more perimeter defender. Louro is someone who showed out as a facilitator and had a level of consistency as a rebounder as well. More playing time must equal more success with her.
No. 5: Raegan Fogarty Raegan Fogarty 5'10" | CG Calvary Christian (Old Bridge) | 2023 State NJ – 5-10, Calvary Christian (Old Bridge) (No. 60 overall)
If you’re looking for consistency on both sides of the ball, look no further than Fogarty, who has been a monster on the blocking side of things, averaging nearly three blocks a game across her high school career. As solid of a defender she is, don’t overlook a double-figure scorer with range and finesse, someone who can play both on-ball and off-ball, someone who’s not afraid to use her body down low and someone who finishes strong through contact.
