We have so many prospects now ranked in this list and will continue to add more once the season comes, but with our rankings also come positional rankings. Here are the top five forwards in the updated 2023 prospect rankings for PGH NJ.
No. 1: Alexis Davis Alexis Davis 6'0" | SF Woodbury | 2023 State NJ – 6-0 SF, Woodbury (No. 4 overall)
We’ve discussed Davis at length before, but if you haven’t seen the absolute monster of a player she is, not just at Glassboro, but last season with the Thundering Herd, you need to get down to South Jersey. Davis is an aggressive scorer and one of the most prolific in the state without a doubt. She averages double-doubles with ease, but her play style exceeds that of the standard forward. She’s athletic and can just about do it all on the floor.
No. 2: Mattison Chiera Mattison Chiera 5'10" | CG Colonia | 2023 State NJ – 5-10 SF, Colonia (No. 7 overall)
Chiera jumped off the tape when it comes to outside shooters in New Jersey because her three-point game has come along so much in just a year. She’s doubled her three-point shooting success quite literally and couples that with an insane inside game and physicality that leads her to the foul line or towards another basket. Chiera has stunned as a defender just as much and could very easily join the 300 steal club with an incredible 2022-23 season.
No. 3: Emma Peretti Emma Peretti 5'11" | PF Hammonton | 2023 State NJ – 5-11 PF, Hammonton (No. 8 overall)
Peretti is very quietly putting together a fantastic high school career and this power forward put South Jersey on watch as a junior, averaging nearly 20 points and 16 rebounds a game. Those numbers don’t get thrown around much, but watching her play, her size is her biggest advantage, and why not use it when you’re 5-11 with a long wingspan and great positioning. We’re excited to watch Peretti grow that much more as a senior.
No. 4: Brynn McCurry Brynn McCurry 6'1" | PF Sparta | 2023 State NJ – 6-1 PF, Sparta (No. 9 overall)
McCurry is one of our favorite players in this 2023 class because of just how much her impact was felt on last year’s state champion Sparta team. As a junior, she commanded the team in a way not many other forwards can do and talk about an incredible player. When you’re 6-1 and dishing out nearly six assists a game, something special is going on. McCurry is that type of game-changing prospect and is a big reason why this year, Sparta is once again a state title favorite.
No. 5: Nir Nir Cherry-Montague Nir Nir Cherry-Montague 6'6" | PF Atlantic City | 2023 State NJ – 6-4 PF, Atlantic City (No. 15 overall)
Cherry-Montague slipped a slight bit in our rankings, but make no mistake about her. Standing at 6-4, one of the tallest players in New Jersey, she’s a freak of nature and has already become quite comfortable with her frame. She blocks really well, has great positioning on the floor, boxes out and rebounds with ease, and her scoring is consistent and effective. When she gets the ball down low, good luck trying to defend her.
