When we said we were going to bring you coverage, we weren’t kidding and we’re doing it in a massive way. With that being said, however, everyone will be curious to know if our top five prospects in New Jersey has really changed much. Unfortunately, the top five is staying the same because the talent of those five prospects is just incredible. Here’s our top five 2023 prospects updated.
No. 1: Hannah Hidalgo Hannah Hidalgo 5'7" | PG Paul VI | 2023 State NJ – 5-6 PG, Paul VI
It’s a matter of decimal points that separates the difference between Hidalgo and Brooks, but for all things considered, Hidalgo is our top prospect in the 2023 class because of just how dynamic she is on the basketball court. From her shooting to her dribble ability to her defense, everything is just absolutely incredible and we cannot sing her praises enough because she’s just that good. If you want to see for yourself just how insane Hidalgo is as a player, YouTube and social media are full of clips and highlights from tournaments and showcases.
No. 2: Zoe Brooks Zoe Brooks 5'8" | CG St. John Vianney | 2023 State NJ – 5-8 CG, St. John Vianney
For as incredible of a player as Hidalgo is, Brooks is her equal and might be even better than her in a number of ways. The NC State commit dazzles on the floor and standing at 5-8, she’s a more versatile and dynamic guard in that right, being able to play both as a point guard and shooting guard. That’s allowed her to really round out her game as someone who can shoot from the outside, but be physical driving into the lane when she wants to. She’s got the reins of the reigning best team in the state as the Lady Lancers look to retain that dominance moving forward.
No. 3: Rylie Theuerkauf Rylie Theuerkauf 5'7" | SG Tenafly | 2023 State NJ – 5-7 SG, Tenafly
Theuerkauf is somewhat of an unknown commodity for a large part of the state, being that Tenafly is across the Hudson River from Yonkers and very close to the top of the state. However, she’s one of the best pure scorers and shooters that New Jersey has seen in quite some time. In the New York/New Jersey scene, she’s shined and has very much dominated, something you’ll see when looking at her stats. After averaging over 36 points A GAME as a sophomore, Theuerkauf took the foot off the gas slightly…scoring just over 30 points a game in a full 24-game season as a junior. She’s gifted and absolutely spectacular to watch, someone who could very well average 30 PPG again as a senior.
No. 4: Alexis Davis Alexis Davis 6'0" | SF Woodbury | 2023 State NJ – 6-0 SF, Woodbury
Davis is another South Jersey prospect who was able to team up with former Paul VI standout Nile Miller last season, putting together a mini super-team with the Thundering Herd, one of the best programs in the region. Like Theuerkauf, Davis is a scoring machine, averaging 27.3 PPG as a junior along with 14.6 RPG. Her 6-0 frame allows her to affect the game in a more prominent way on both sides of the floor, being that she’s a great defensive forward, but a dynamic offensive player as well. Woodbury’s schedule hasn’t been released yet, but what a matchup it would be if her and Hidalgo matched up during the high school season.
No. 5: Katie Ledden Katie Ledden 6'0" | SG Rutgers Prep | 2023 State NJ – 6-0 SG, Rutgers Prep
Ledden has really risen up the rankings and gotten the attention of many as one of the main leaders of this Rutgers Prep program, one that got to the Tournament of Champions final and won a state title last season. The 6-0 shooting guard, in particular, has really worked on her game and, put herself in the spotlight after a fantastic junior season, one that did come out of nowhere to some. The Rhode Island commit has showed out over the summer with Team Sharp as well and really looks comfortable shooting from outside the arc while absolutely dominating on the interior as well. Her tall frame is perfect for getting extra extension on her shots and helps on defense tremendously.
