There was some big name 2026 athletes that made some noise on the travel ball circuit but there were also some players that made a name for themselves at this showcase. The energy was through the roof on both courts which created an exciting atmosphere. Here are some of the guards that stood out to me on the day.
Guilford just keeps getting better every time she steps on the court. A player that plays well beyond her age and has played up with her 2024 Team Nite Nite team on the circuit this past summer. She is a player that can score at all 3 levels and plays tough on both ends of the floor. Rebounds well for her size. Her quick hands on defense allowed her to create a lot of turnovers which led to easy scoring opportunities on the day. Her ability to shoot the 3 ball, hit the mid range and attack the basket keeps her defenders guessing her next move. Look for her to have a breakout freshman campaign this upcoming season.
Highlights
Heywood is a gamechanger that never stops working. Has one of the quickest releases from behind the arch but knows how to put her head down and get to the rim. Her length creates match up problems on both offense and defense. She scored in double figures in all 4 games on the day. High IQ guard that knows how to take what the defense gives her. Has the ability to play all 5 positions if need be. Looking for her to make some noise in Class 7A this upcoming season.
Glahn was super impressive on the day with her ability to handle the basketball in traffic and her ability to the shoot the 3. She is a player that is always in scoring position. Has the ability to score from anywhere on the court at any given time. A player that is not afraid to pressure up on defense and always looking to push the ball in transition. Her ability to attack the basket and score through contact was her biggest asset. High IQ and High motor guard that will play a major role for her high school team this upcoming season.
Slater is a high energy guard that knows how to attack the basket strong. Her length allows her to get out in the passing lanes and create some easy scoring opportunities a the rim. A player that is always getting downhill on every possession. When the drive was taken away she found a way to score in the mid range. A player that sees the floor well and knows how to get her teammates involved. Has the ability to score off the drive or from outside. Looking for her to play a major role for her team this upcoming season.
Hulett is a flat out scorer. A player that shot the 3 ball extremely well on the day. Does not need much room to get her shot off. Pushes the ball well in transition and has great guard vision. High IQ point guard that can also score at will. Her speed allows her to blow pass her defenders and finish at the rim. A player that plays both ends of the floor with a ton of energy. A player that does not miss much from behind the arc. Excited to see what she brings to the GHSA this upcoming season.
