The National Championship was held July 23-25 and was loaded with talent from all over the country. Here are the top six players that stood out at the event.
Shahana Kanagasabay
Shahana Kanagasabay
Kanagasabay brings athleticism and energy to the frontcourt positions. At 5-foot-11 the thin-framed forward was comfortable playing around the rim but thrived when she could get out in transition and use her speed and length in the passing lanes. What was most impressive about Kanagasabay was her willingness to compete defensively and positively impact that side of the ball. She is elite when it comes to getting deflections and causing havoc on the ball and in passing lanes.
Clardy is one of the elite wings in the country and this was another showing that showed her stock amongst the elite players in the class was strongly rooted. This weekend Clardy proved that she could score the ball at all three levels and comfortably create offensive for herself and others while also working within an offensive structure. Look for Clardy to join one of the elite programs in the country when she makes her college decisions this fall.
Syla Swords
Syla Swords
Showing the ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball, class of 2024 guard Syla Swords was easily one of the standout members of the class of 2024 at “The National Championship” this weekend. At 6-foot, Swords is physical enough to grab a defensive rebound and skilled enough to turn the rebound into a transition opportunity. Offensively, she is comfortable scoring the ball from the perimeter and finishing around the rim with both hands.
If you like players who compete, give second and third efforts and don’t need attention to be consistent, RyLee Grays RyLee Grays 6’3″ | PF The Village School | 2023 State #17 Nation TX is your kind of player. Throughout her prep career, Grays has been a model of consistency with her effort and it has led to a productive prep career. At 6-foot-3, Grays has the unique ability to step onto a college campus and play early because of her defensive presence and then grow into a key offensive contributor.
Macy is an exciting young post prospect as she has a well developed offensive skill set but isn’t afraid to mix it up or play with physicality. In two prime matchups, we saw Macy play offensively at the high post and make key passes to players in scoring positions. She showed great poise with the ball in her hands and a comfort level breaking pressure and handling the ball as a secondary handler. Look for Macy to continue to develop and grow as a national level recruit as she finishes her high school career.
Bradley Beal Elite guard Jailah Pelly Jailah Pelly 5’9″ | SG O’Fallon | 2023 State IL had an excellent weekend in Orlando as she showed comfort playing with and without the ball and handling the offensive scoring role for a talented Bradley Beal Elite team. Pelly is a good athlete who can finish attacking the rim with either hand. What will scare defenders however is her ability to make catch and shoot jumpers and keep defenses honest.
