Whether they occurred on independent events or on the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit, South Carolina’s presence was greatly felt from the first travel events to the conclusion of the club season.
For rising seniors, it was one last time through the AAU schedule before looking ahead to this fall and winter when they compete with their high school teams for one final season. Without further adieu, here is our 2023 All-AAU Team.
Harris had herself a busy 2022 in the AAU realm as she spent time with a pair of top-tier travel teams. She was a top performer at Peach Games in Atlanta and carried that momentum all the way through War Games ATL at Suwanee Sports Complex. Last month, she announced she received an offer from Benedict College – a Columbia-based HBCU. One can see why the Tigers would be a suitor for Harris given her scoring, rebounding, shot blocking and height advantage. She will enter the 2022-23 season with her Bulldogs as a favorite to win it all in 3A play this upcoming season.
Garner entered the travel campaign coming off a season with the 5A Wildcats where they made a deep run in the postseason. That momentum then translated to the travel realm where she continued to shine as a scorer and rebounder. Garner impressed at an LBI event in North Carolina prior to the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit then continued to catch the attention of many an onlooker at the Music City Showdown in Tennessee. Garner has offers from both North Greenville University and Francis Marion – where her former Wildcats teammate Alexis Sexton will play her college ball.
Fresh off a 2021-22 season that saw her Tigers get to within one victory of the 3A state championship game, Thompson continued her superb play during the AAU campaign. Among the events she made her presence felt were the Phenom Lady Rumble, Insider Exposure Apache Memorial in Charlotte and the Adidas 3SSB. Thompson stands at an even six feet and shines as a scorer, rebounder, ball hawk and shot blocker. The Tigers did graduate a few seniors from last year’s team, but Southside is poised to once again be one of the top 3A teams to watch in 2022-23.
Cane Bay has not been around for many seasons – but Thomas was part of the nucleus that proved the 5A Cobras belong on the court with anyone from the division. She had an outstanding performance at the Lowcountry Summer Shootout which, ironically, took place at crosstown rival Summerville HS and also had a great June camp showing with the Cobras at Dawn Staley’s meet at UofSC. Thomas is versatile and can play as either a guard or small forward and is a gifted rebounder and scorer. She competed in 27 matchups last season en route to a 23-4 record (8-0 Region 7-5A).
Snyder is listed at 5-foot-7 and can certainly look back at her final go-round in the AAU realm with a proud look on her face. Among the events her TMP team were present at were Peach Games in Atlanta (part of the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit’s Triumph Region) and the Lowcountry Summer Shootout which took place at Summerville HS. Ball handling, ball distribution, scoring and lockdown defense are among the hallmarks of Snyder’s complete game. The lone SCISA representative on our list, she will enter the 2022-23 season with the Cyclones competing in its new 4A category.
