Of course that work becomes greatly apparent if one follows travel basketball. For four of the last five months, the same players that have become household names for teams such as Keenan, Camden and Military Magnet wear the colors of A’ja Wilson Elite, Upward Stars and SC Future.
These stars among the 2025 class had impressive freshman seasons and that translated into more top-tier play in the club realm.
Lauren Middleton Lauren Middleton 5'6" | CG Cross | 2025 State SC – Cross HS – Team USC Unleashed Cross 2024 – When one manages to make a high school team as an eighth grader and play up a year in class, that player must be doing something right. Middleton caught the attention of many an onlooker at several stops on her travel schedule – including on the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit at Knoxville Knockout and at the Triumph Region Finals at Spartanburg’s Upward Star Center. She also competed at Run For the Roses in Louisville and as part of the 17U bracket at LBI’s Carolina Live. Scoring, rebounding and defenses are Middleton’s strong suits.
Lauren Jacobs Lauren Jacobs 5'9" | PG Heathwood Hall | 2025 State SC – Heathwood Hall – A’ja Wilson Elite 2025 – The previous five months were particularly busy for Jacobs coming off another SCISA 3A championship with Cardinal Newman not only in terms of her play with A’ja Wilson Elite but also with her transferring, ironically, to A’ja Wilson’s high school alma mater at the Highlanders. She was a top performer on a Prep Girls Hoops Circuit stop at Peach Games in Atlanta and also showed up to show out at Apache Memorial and at the team camp at UofSC. Jacobs will bring her exemplary scoring, rim attacking and ball distribution skills to what should be an improved Heathwood Hall squad that will compete in SCISA’s new 4A classification this upcoming season.
Camillea Gore Camillea Gore 6'0" | SG Heathwood Hall | 2025 State SC – Heathwood Hall – A’ja Wilson Elite 2025 – Speaking of Highlanders poised for noteworthy 2022-23, Gore also had herself noteworthy outings at Peach Games in Atlanta on the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit as well as at Insider Exposure’s Apache Memorial in Charlotte. She too was part of the team camp at UofSC in late June also. Gore thrives in the backcourt as a shooting guard and has greatly developed her shot from deep. She stands at 5-foot-9 and bolsters a team’s efforts defensively as well as rebounding-wise. The chemistry she and Jacobs have established throughout AAU should pay dividends this upcoming season for Heathwood Hall.
Leanissa Swinton Leanissa Swinton 5'10" | PF Wilson | 2025 State SC – Wilson HS – Carolina Sonics/Lady Sonics 2025 – Swinton unfortunately flies under the radar for much of the high school season, but impressed in travel ball these past few months. This included a stop at the Triumph Region Finals at the Upward Star Center where Swinton had a 12-point performance to lead her team to a 37-27 win over Georgia-based One Step Away 2025. Swinton is a ferocious frontcourt foe for many an opponent near the rim and she proves this with how gifted a rebounder she is. She can find spacing in the open floor and looks to convert offensive boards into two-point putbacks. A 3-point shot is also part of Swinton’s offensive repertoire.
Logan Collins Logan Collins 5'6" | PG Stall | 2025 State SC – Lucy Beckham HS – Lowcountry Premier 15U – Collins had a stop in the latter portion of the travel schedule at the Lowcountry Summer Shootout at Summerville HS that was one of the more noteworthy outings of any player on site at The Fire House. She was more than willing to absorb contact that got her to the free throw line. Defensively, she is prone to take advantage of an opposing ball carrier’s miscue and knows when to score and when to pass. Rebounding is another facet of her overall skillset. Collins also was part of a team camp at Charleston Southern and looks to translate her success as a freshman into even bigger things as a sophomore for 4A Lucy Beckham.
