Speaking of look, I’m a visual person which is why I love taking pictures because I can see things that pop back into my head, sort of like running into someone from years ago that upset me and I immediately get into character but that’s another story, here are some of the players that SHOT the ball well
Jaida Gomez-5’5 SG (Pflugerville) Austin Elite RFW |2023|
Gomez has been arguably one of the best “catcha nd shoot” performers, with consistency, I have actually seen multiple times over the club season. She can drop it coming off the screen yet I really enjoy watching her catch passes and let it go, especially in clutch situations like she did in this event. She also can drop it in transition, the stop and pop is very effective
Jolie Aguirre-5’4 SG ( Moe And Gene Johnson) CTX Lady Knights |2023|
Aguirre has been one of my “must see” players all club season and if she’s playing, I try to catch her because I know she’s going to bring IT no matter what. She creates her shot under pressure and I love watching her drop the mid to long-range with variety of ways to get open yet she wants the ball down the stretch and delivers with a hand in her face
Nakya Blakely-5’9 SG (Memorial) Banshees 2023 |2023| OK
Blakely has good size to go with a good frame and yes, she can overpower smaller guards by taking them off the dribble and yes, she can outrebound players standing over “the magic number” which is 6’0 yet her ability to drop the jumlper was nice. What was even nicer is that she could drop from her Oklahoma area code
Payton Perkins-5’5 SG (Dr. John D Horn) Urban Heroes Ross |2023|
Perkins also did a good job of creating her shot while being defended. Her deceptive first step got them to lean and her slight step back enabled her to drop shots. She also did a good job of just elevating on her jumper and watching her drop it from mid to long-range was very nice
Tamya Whiteman-5’6 SG (Dallas Skyline) Texas Top Prospects Black |2024|
Whiteman showed she was an effective shooter yet she didn’t force anything which is a lways a plus. She did a good job of being patient and taking good shots and her ability to drop bto the midrange and longrange was nice. She also scored off the dribble afew times and saw the floor well
Raelynn Robinson-5’4 PG (Caddo Mills) Platinum BIQ Walker/Alexander RED |2024|
Robinson just brought it to the defender and her fearlessness certainly was something that just grabbed me. Yes, she attacked from a variety of angles and that helped keep the defender guessing as she showed and dropped te pull-up jumper. What was equally impressive was seeing her handle tthe ball in the open court and show the “stop and pop”
Evonne Sidney-5’7 SG (Cypress Springs) Houston United Bobby |2024|
Sidney showed me something very valuable, and like that other SC who is from up north, I SEE EVERYTHING. Her improvememt falls under “I know who is actually developing” and seeing where she was a couple of seasons ago to where she is now just kept me beaming. She’s strong and attacks strongly yet she also eevates with power and was knocking down jumpers, afteer contact, well she did the same on her finishes yet her mindset and upset …
Kya Mitchell-5’3 SG (Lavega) Waco United 16U |2024|
Mitchell had that song playing in my head, Girl On Fire, because she came out the gate dropping the long ball, a couple falling down and couple after contact, which equated to 4 point plays. She could always shoot yet she understands when to set the defender up which falls into “playing within herself
Madison Hurta Madison Hurta 5'8" | PG San Marcos Homeschool | 2024 State TX -5’7 SG ( The Hurta Preparatory Academy) Austin Elite RFW |2024|
Hurta keeps putting a HURT UGHHH on defenders and her expresionless looks after scoring after the lick years ago told me what was coming. She also can score from mid to long range, however you want it and if it’s off the screen or the pull-up in the set, she nails it yet what I’m really digging is that “catch and shoot” keeps getting better
Adley Halligan-5’5 PG (St. Johns) Houston United Bobby |2024|
Haligan just wowed me with her quick relese and when she was letting it go from, well everywhere, with a “flick of the wrist” I just smiled. She has some solid moves to get open, she also understands how to mix it up to mix the defender up and her attacking hard a few times, then doing it and stopping on a dime to drop it JUST DID IT FOR ME
