The game comes down to possessions for you and your opponent, O-boards increase yours, and D-boards limit theirs. Here is a list of 5 young ladies from this class that understands and embraces the importance of taking care of business on the glass.
Maggie Taylor Maggie Taylor 6'3" | C Hill City | 2024 State SD – Hill City – 6’3″ C – Current PGH Class of 2024 Ranking – 5th
Maggie is a hidden gem in this class that Prep Girls Hoops has rightly placed among the top 5 in her class. The 2024 crew is headlined by guards taking their talents to the next level, but don’t sleep on this post player as one of the best prospects of the group. At 6’3″ she is a menace on defense and blocks shot after shot on that end. She has a nice back-to-the-basket game, and oh yeah, she can step out and knock down threes. She makes this list as a long, smart rebounder who attacks the basket hard to scoop up boards, but I wanted to take a moment to point out the level of completeness of this young lady’s game. One of the most dynamic athletes in this class, keep your eye on Maggie Taylor Maggie Taylor 6'3" | C Hill City | 2024 State SD with her Hill City squad this upcoming season.
Jaidyn Dunn Jaidyn Dunn 6'1" | PF Sioux Falls Jefferson | 2024 State SD – SF Jefferson – 6’0″ PF – Current PGH Class of 2024 Ranking – 6th
Jaidyn Dunn Jaidyn Dunn 6'1" | PF Sioux Falls Jefferson | 2024 State SD is an absolute stud on both ends. She is a treat to watch as she possesses an old-school, physical game paired with immense athleticism and fundamental skill. The argument could be made that she may be the most intriguing prospect in the entire state. She is a shot-blocking machine and gives her guards the ability to get out and pressure the perimeter as they know what is waiting near the rim for their opponents if they get there. Dunn is an athletic post player who uses her 6’0″ frame, great footwork, and high IQ to score at will in or around the paint. She works her tail off on the boards and is capable of grabbing 10-15 rebounds per contest.
Carli Kuyper Carli Kuyper 6'2" | C Lennox | 2024 State SD – Lennox – 6’2″ C – Current PGH Class of 2024 Ranking – 7th
Carli is a very intriguing prospect. At 6’2″ she’s a great shot blocker, a physical paint presence, and a staple in the middle of any offense. Combine her inside presence with her ability to step out and knock down threes and you have a fun prospect on the offensive end. She makes this list though for her ability to put up double-digit rebound numbers on a consistent basis, gaining her team extra possessions on offense and limiting her opponent to one attempt per possession.
Abby Aslesen Abby Aslesen 5'11" | SF Howard | 2024 State SD – Howard – 5’11” F – Current PGH Class of 2024 Ranking – 36th
Abby is a talented paint threat in a really deep post group in the Class of 2024. Checking in ranked 36th overall in her class I expect her to be a stock riser this upcoming season. She has really solid footwork, plays with a nice balance of physicality and finesse, and plays with a high motor. She’s a threat every time she catches it in the paint and is a shot-blocking threat on the defensive end. She checks in on this list though because of her ability to read the basketball off the rim well, snagging rebounds and creating extra chances for her Tiger Squad. On defense, she boxes out efficiently and grabs a lot of boards to end her opponent’s possessions.
Jaelyn Wendt Jaelyn Wendt 6'1" | C Harding County | 2024 State SD – Newell – 6’1″ C – Current PGH Class of 2024 Ranking – 38th
The Irrigators from Newell have been blessed with Jaelyn over the years, playing from a young age and continuously getting better. She’s a high-motor athlete who snags a ton of boards on each end, generally grabbing at least 10 for her squad. She is 6’1″ and athletic and has a great basketball build. Last year she grabbed 240 rebounds on the season, averaging 11.8 rebounds per game, setting her school’s record. Look for Jaelyn to continue snatching boards on both ends of the floor and continue to be one of the most dynamic talents in the state that should continue to draw more and more attention.
