Continue ReadingFinley looks to jump into her senior season with a bang at West Liberty High School. Averaging 12.7 PPG, 5.9 RPG, and 1.3 APG as a junior and leading her team to a 19-5 record overall, while placing second in conference with a 16-3 record, she looks to build on the momentum of last season. With the addition of Kelsey Joens Kelsey Joens 5’10” | SG West Liberty | 2023 State IA from City High, along with several returning players from last season, including her younger sister, Pearson Hall Pearson Hall 5’1″ | PG West Liberty | 2025 State IA , who is a solid player in her own regard, West Liberty should shine. When you add these factors along with their new head coach in Courtney Joens, West Liberty is in a great spot to make a big state run at the 3A level.
Reyerson returns to West Marshall High School as the leading rebounder in 3A last season as a junior. Racking up an impressive 292 rebounds, 88 steals, 60 blocks and leading her team to the regional championship but falling short to Rolling-Story High School. The UNI commit averaged a double double last season with 19.8 PPG, and 11.7 RPG and looks to add to these numbers in the 22′-23′ season. Hopes are high for West Marshall as they return all five starters from last season along with some experience coming off the bench. It will be interesting to see if the Trojans can put it all together to win a 3A state championship.
Gracie starts her senior year hoping to have an identical season as 21′-22′. Where she lead Unity Christian High School to the 3A state semi-finals, averaging 24.7 PPG on 73% shooting, 7.5 RPG, and 5.4 APG. Ranking her #1 in 3A scoring with 642 points, #2 in assists with 141 assists, and #8 in steals with 95 on the season. With all these numbers the real factor that stands out to me is Gracies physicality. Averaging over a little more than 5 free throws per game she is a fan of contact and finishing at the rim. It will be a very intriguing season to see what Gracie can do with this Unity Christian team that will only have herself as a returning starter.
When you speak about the future of the Monticello Panthers women’s basketball team, you must include the name Jayden Kuper Jayden Kuper 5’11” | SF Monticello | 2025 State IA . Jayden started as a freshman last year and for good reason. Averaging 12.5 PPG, and 9.4 RPG the freshman almost averaged a double double while also shooting 34% from three. After having a very successful freshman campaign in high school ball, Kuper led a LOADED Team Iowa 15u Blue Star team to a winning record on the Prep Hoops Circuit, Blue Star Circuit, and some EYBL sponsored events. As the high school season approaches she will hope to lead her Panthers teams to a conference championship, along with a state run to follow.
The Pocahontas Area Indians are ready to start their 22′-23′ season with vengeance. Returning all five of their starters from last year along with their 6th and 7th girl off their bench the Indians are posed to make a big run in 3A this season lead by Janssen. Janssen ranked #12 in 3A in scoring last seasons along with top 25 in assists at 3.6 per game. While seeing Carly play this summer for her All Iowa Attack team it is safe to say that she is a floor general and more so, a great leader for any team she is playing with. Another big factor that she adds is on the defensive side of the ball, being persistent with ball pressure and being a vocal leader at all times. I’ll be curious to as where the Indians end their season going into the playoffs and the interest Carly has going into college.
