Lake Norman prevailed over the Cougars with a final score of 36 to 45. This game was not short of standouts with so many ranked players in the state competing. Check out some of these athletes.
Let’s start with Lake Norman.
Kirsten Lewis-Williams Kirsten Lewis-Williams 5'10" | CG Lake Norman | 2023 State NC (Lake Norman, 2023) came out strong being a part of the first 6 points for her team driving hard to the basket using a spin move and finding her open teammates for their points. She was all over the court scoring, and it seemed like she was constantly at the free throw line to finish a three point play. She finished with 19 points.
Alexis Shehan Alexis Shehan 6'0" | SF Lake Norman | 2025 State NC (Lake Norman, 2025) shined, too, with her cuts in and out of the paint getting lost by her defenders. She was persistent going after rebounds, and she was a driving force helping lead her team on an 8-0 run forcing Cannon to call timeout. Her arms were getting in the way of her opponents making passes. She and her sister, Samantha Shehan Samantha Shehan 6'0" | CG Lake Norman | 2025 State NC (Lake Norman, 2025), were finding each other for passes. Sam does a nice job popping out to get open staying ready to shoot the ball when she gets the pass.
Addison Sirianni Addison Sirianni 5'7" | CG Lake Norman | 2025 State NC (Lake Norman, 2025) was a tough defender as usual taking on the challenge of guarding a future Division I athlete for a large part of the game. She knocked the ball away going after the steal. On the offensive side of the ball, she knocked down shots from deep on multiple occasions extending the lead for her team making it difficult for Cannon to try and come back.
Now, let’s see the stars for Cannon.
Cannon had their top 2023 showing off her skills, too. Samyha Suffren Samyha Suffren 5'8" | PG Cannon | 2023 State NC (Cannon, 2023) showed her ability to score knocking down a three pointer taking care of business on her own. She was crashing boards following shots to get the rebound. She showed off her leadership in the huddle encouraging her teammates and instructing them on how to stop the opponents’ scoring run.
Maya McCorkle Maya McCorkle 5'9" | CG Cannon | 2025 State NC (Cannon, 2024) was really stepping up defensively for her team grabbing steals to take the other direction. She had a nice crossover exaggerating the move to change the direction of her opponent, and she showed off a nice finish at the rim scoring two. She battled through contact multiple times not slowing down for anyone.
Kierra Morrow Kierra Morrow 5'10" | SF Cannon | 2024 State NC (Cannon, 2024) was an aggressive opponent knocking the ball away to grab the steal, and she drove hard to the basket scoring through contact for some old fashioned three point plays. She seemed to want to take matters into her own hands when there was a loose ball for her to go after.
Jamyrah Cherry Jamyrah Cherry 5'10" | SF Salisbury | 2025 State NC (Cannon, 2025) was battling in the paint for her points and converting from the free throw line. She had a nice three point basket in the beginning of the game starting off strong for her team even after they had just played a whole game before. She uses her strength to get physical on the court making sure she has her way when it comes to grabbing boards.
