At this time, I wanted to highlight a few young ladies for their play. All are listed as small forwards within the Indiana Class of 2025 Top-125 Rankings.
Lily really saw her college interest improve throughout the Summer months, and for good reason. She is a long, wiry, fairly fluid wing who does a lot of different things. She can handle the ball and run/initiate offense like a point forward. She’s also a tremendous perimeter shooter who shot the ball at a high level throughout the entire grassroots season. I also like her willingness to rebound at her position, but she also defends with effort and does a nice job of using her length to affect passing lanes from “help-side”.
Highlights
Ava is a long, wiry, bouncy, fluidly athletic, and very active kid who just knows how to score the basketball. She is great attacking the basket off the bounce, finishing at the rim or with a variety of runners/floaters. She also has touch from the perimeter, and though streaky at times, when she gets hot, she gets really hot outside. Defensively, she puts her athleticism and length to good use, constantly creating deflections and steals, allowing her team(s) to get out in transition. I like her ability to defend bigger guards, wings, and undersized forwards.
Chaney is an athletically strong, somewhat physical wing, who can affect a game at all three levels. She’s willing to be assertive inside, where she will rebound and sometimes defend. She’s probably most effective in the mid-post, where she can attack the basket off the bounce or consistently knock down the 15-foot jumper. She’s also capable around the perimeter, where she’s comfortable handling the ball, which she does often for her high school team. She’ll also knock down the occasional 3-pointer when she’s set and in rhythm.
Joslyn plays with great energy and has a nice motor. If she gets out in transition, there’s not much stopping her from getting to the basket or making a play for teammates. She has an athletically strong frame, good North/South speed, and a versatile skillset. She has great touch in the mid-range, good touch around the perimeter, but again, she’s strong attacking the basket and finishing. She works at it defensively as well, and she creates a lot of deflections/steals. I would like to see her a little more active on the boards, though.
Sophie is a twin, and she and her sister bring a great deal of height, length, and fluid athleticism to the Lady Knights’ lineup. Sophie was very impactful as a Freshman, averaging 11.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for DeMotte Christian (formerly Covenant Christian-DeMotte). She’s active, she can attack the basket or knock down the open 3-pointer consistently, and she can even occasionally serve as a point forward and initiate the offense when necessary. I also like her potential as a defender, being able to use her length to disrupt opposing defenses.
