This area is an area filled with small school talent and has produced plenty of state championship teams over the years and coming into this season maybe thoe most talented area in the state. On this list you’ll find a good mixture of young and old talent just like the rest of the state, picking 5 kids wasnt an easy task in the Lafayette area. These five kids will all help their respective programs to wins and possibly state championships. Here’s a look at the 2022 Preseason All- Lafayette Area Team!
The elder statesman of the area and multiple D1 offer holder Chrysta has simply been consistent the last couple of years for her Lady Lions squad. Last year she lead them to the Top 28 (Final Four) while earning 1st team All-State honors averaging 15.1 ppg. A long guard who can play the 1 or 2 is best when she’s in attack mode getting downhill, drawing fouls, finishing and creating for her teammates! I look for that 15.1 ppg to increase this year with the Lady Lions loosing a few key pieces from last years team.
Highlights
Its not easy to score 30 ppg at any level but that’s what the rising Junior Jada Richard Jada Richard 5’7″ | PG Lafayette Christian | 2024 State LA did last season while leading her Lafayette Christian Lady Knights to a state tittle and a 1st team all State selection. Another Lafayette area Hooper who holds Multiple D1 offers Richard is the engine behind a loaded Lady Knights team. A certified bucket getter Richard is a 3 level scorer with a pull up game that you normally don’t see in the female game the elevation on her jumper is next level. Not only is she the best scorer on what might be the states best team regardless of class she’s also the best defender not afraid to guard 1-5. While there might be a scoring drop off due to playing with multiple D1 kids Eve Alexander Dacia Jones Dacia Jones 5’10” | CG Lafayette Christian | 2023 State LA and Kaliyah Samuels Kaliyah Samuels 6’0″ | SF Lafayette Christian | 2026 State LA look for Jada to be in the running for Louisiana Gatorade Player of the year.
Sleeper Alert Sleeper Alert! The 6 ft Veal cracks the first team list not based on production but more so potential. Over the last two summer I’ve seen growth in the Northside Lady Vikings product offensively. The lefty who’s extremely long and athletic is a solid finisher around the rim and a gazelle in transistion. Where she majes her money at is defensively where she defends the pick and roll very well while being a big time shot blocker. Look for Miss Veal and her Lady Vikings to shock alot of people this year!
Now I know we mentioned Miss Key in our Stock Risers segment for the 2024 class and that’s because her stocks rose all summer. It’s clear evidence that she had one of the best summers of any kid in the state of Louisiana this summer and that carried over into the Fab 50 where I was able to continue watch her put her name in the conversation as one of the top 2024 kids in the sate. Consistency and confidence are two words that best describes Eymani who will again play a major role this year for her Southside Sharks squad and will have to carry the scoring load with the loss of fellow 2024 guard Hannah Mouton Hannah Mouton 5’7″ | PG Southside | 2024 State LA ! Her stroke from deep and improved handle will be on full display this year and she should most definitely have a monster year!
Put the ball in her hands and good things tend to happen in this case. The Lafayette PG has consistently shown growth this summer and in doing so she picked up a D1 offer. With a limited role last year for the Lady Lions Kira will be a go to option on this years addition of the Lady Lions. A capable walking double double she’ll have to score the ball at a high clip which I’m sure she will seeing as though she can get wherever she wants to on the court with her shifty handle while also having great court vision. Looking for her to be the lead guard this year along side Chrysta Narcisse Chrysta Narcisse 5’8″ | PG Lafayette | 2023 State LA this backcourt will be tough to stop.
