In my opinion, this is the best time of year for 2023s to be making their commitments, so they can get started with a fun senior season without the added pressure of looking for offers. This means we get to see many of these athletes get back to just having fun playing the game that they love while striving for a championship to cap off their high school careers.
Congratulations to all of the following athletes from the latest commitments!
Douglas seemed to have the SEC locked in with her last two schools that she was considering being Alabama and Georgia with the Crimson Tide winning out. Douglas has been playing Division I level basketball for years now, and we have no doubt that she is ready to make an immediate impact. She can score at all levels, and she moves so fluidly with the ball finding the openings to put up her shot. As a ball handler, she controls the tempo and reads the floor well seemingly being a few steps ahead of the defense at all times. She can keep up with anyone she is guarding knocking the ball away and making it difficult for opponents to get by her.
Another dominant athlete from the Carolina Flames family is headed north to Delaware. Howard has been consistently one of the best players on the court when she competes, and what makes her so fun to watch is she seems to expand what she can do on the court every time. She can guard all five positions being able to body someone in the paint or step outside to keep up with guards. That translates well to the offensive side of the ball as she can step outside to drain the three or drive hard to the paint scoring through contact. She is aggressive on both ends of the court, and she uses her strength to protect the possession on offense and block shots on defense.
Highlights
Jordan is staying in North Carolina playing in the ACC next season at Wake Forest. She has been an excellent shooter consistently knocking them down from deep, and there’s no doubt this will translate well to her collegiate performance. She is smart with her decisions knowing how to use fakes and change of speed moves to get by her opponents when she drives to the basket. She has a quick closeout on defense, too, inhibiting her opponents from getting good shots up, and her wingspan is certain to deflect some passes along the way.
Chavis is staying on the eastern side of the state going to UNC Wilmington. She is a player who leaves it all out on the court whenever she gets the chance whether she is laying out for a loose ball, driving hard to the basket through contact, or playing aggressive defense to regain the possession. She is an asset scoring on all levels, too, with a nice jump shot from anywhere on the court. Her ability to penetrate the paint and shift the defense makes it easier for her teammates to score some points as well. Selfishly, I am glad to see players like her and Jordan staying in North Carolina.
Geddes is taking her talents to William & Mary. She first came on to my radar as a dominant three point shooter. She is certainly that, consistently knocking them down from deep no matter if she is coming off a pass or shooting off the dribble. However, getting to watch her over the past several years proves that she is a guard that can do it all for her team like control the tempo, create space for her teammates, and make some nice dishes to help create scoring opportunities. Her composure is the same whether her team is leading on the scoreboard or they are down as she consistently plays at a high level no matter the circumstance.
Highlights
Robinson is joining the Carolina just south of here at Charleston Southern. She is a stat packing athlete finishing with double digits in points consistently and grabbing rebounds for her teams doing it all no matter who she is going up against. She has an ability to put her head down and drive to the basket showing off a variety of finishes in order to get her points, and she doesn’t shy away from stopping quickly for a jump shot. Her court vision is on point finding the gaps in the defense to make a play. She is certainly an asset on the other end playing tough defense reading her opponents as if she knows what they are going to do next.
