It was a long day filled with a lot of basketball. Players had multiple opportunities not only to show, but to prove themselves on the big stage. Here’s the 2025 Top 5!
Addison Pontiff
Addison Pontiff
It’s such a pleasant surprise to say the least that I was able to see Addison at the Pre Fab 50. She had a decent day along with here high school teammate Emilee Duet, but oh my, how a couple of weeks can make a difference. At the Fab 50, Addison was a totally different kid displaying a new confidence in her game. She had such an improved handle from the Pre Fab. Addison got plenty of paint touches using that handle often times making the right play (pass). Throughout the day, she displayed a high IQ making backdoor cuts when needed and knowing how to role when being a screener. She just displayed a nice overall skillset at the Fab 50 with some good size.
Floor General is what Kira is and showed at the Fab 50. The Lafayette PG consistently broke down defenders which led to lay ups for herself and her teammates. She had a couple of “WOW” moments on the day either off the bounce or making a no look pass. Easily, one of the best pure points at the camp. She showed that against some of the states best!
Highlights
Was she the best player in the gym? A lot of people would say, yes. I had a couple of the JUCO coaches on hand to tell me that, “she maybe the best player in the ’25 class.” So basically, Amijah didn’t disappoint anyone at the Fab 50.She just has things instinctively you can’t teach. She does things with a ball in her hand that’s not scripted (no cone work). Nobody was able to stay in front of her at the Fab 50. She got to the rim whenever she wanted to making all types of crazy acrobatic lay ups. She may have broken a finger or two with the bullet passes she threw! Improving her jumper off the bounce will be her biggest thing going forward and staying in shape to continue to play the passing lanes like she does. Look for her to have a breakout season at Woodlawn High this year.
While watching Ryli play, Diamond Deshields is the first name that popped in my head. Ryli has all the tools to be either a Pg or a combo player. She displayed all of that at the Fab 50. She’s so athletic to whereas she might be too athletic, if that’s a thing. It showed as she used that quick first step to blow by any and everybody that tried to stay in front of her. On the back end of that, she elevated over people and finished! Her handle is tight and quick with no wasted dribbles. Defensively, she just sat down on people and locked in with her long arms. Definitely a great lateral mover! No way you was beating her off the bounce.
The number one player in the ’25 class did not disappoint. She’s just continuing where she left off. Versatile is the best way to describe her. She posted up, played the point, dropped dimes, scored, and punished people in many ways. Not a lot to say here! She’s only going to get better and that’s scary! She’s most definitely going to be a huge asset to her Lady Cats teammates of Walker High.
