Last Friday, September 30th, we released the Fall rankings update for the Class of 2023. There were a handful of new additions, a few players who raised their “stock”, so to speak, so subsequently there was some movement throughout the list. I wanted to take this time to circle back and address all of the ranked prospects, position by position. Below is a look at 45 point guard prospects who make up 20.0% of the rankings this time around, with analysis on a handful to “keep an eye on” detailed at the bottom.
KEEP AN EYE ON:
In a talented but deep backcourt, Ella has carved out a nice role for the Lady Trojans. She is quick, fast, and very active at both ends of the floor, and she can best be described as just a playmaker. She has the ability to make shots with deep range, but she also gets by defenders and collapses defenses, either creating for teammates or finishing herself in the paint. I also really like her feistiness defensively, on the ball especially, but she has a noticeable toughness in general to her game. Look for her to help lead Center Grove this season.
I know I’ve mentioned Kristin a number of times throughout the Summer, but it’s well-deserved, and I am anticipating a big Winter out of her for the Lady Vikings. Minus the graduation of three 2022 starters, Kristin will not only need to take on a much bigger statistical role this year, but she’ll also be counted on as a primary vocal leader for Valparaiso. On the court, she is a long, gliding athlete, with a dynamic skillset, the ability to score it at all levels, and a very creative mind. She is also a highly energetic and tough-nosed ballplayer.
Sharing the backcourt with quality prospects like Olivia Nickerson and Addison Bowsman, if teams overlook this Addison, it just makes her that much more dangerous. She has a natural feel for the game, she moves around the floor well, whether she is on the ball or away from it, and she is very skillful. She can knock down open rhythm jumpers consistently, she can create off the dribble for teammates, and she plays with a nice toughness, despite her smaller frame. I also like her feistiness and instincts at the defensive end of the floor.
Highlights
Peyton had a solid first two seasons for the Lakers, but as a Junior she erupted, nearly doubling her scoring, at 14.1 points per game. She also shot a solid 34% from ‘3’ and 76% from the charity stripe, so I am anxious to see what she does this Winter. She is a tough-nosed, hard-working, always-in-the-action battler who will do a lot of the “little things” to help her team(s) win games. She can run the point and create for others, she scores it consistently, and she’s versatile defensively. She has already committed to Huntington University.
In three seasons at Seeger, the Lady Patriots are 54-12 during Aubry’s career, and she looks to finish up her Senior year with another strong Winter in West Lebanon, Indiana. Aubry is a smaller guard, but she has a big game. She can fill it up from outside, and with range, she is quick/fast, and she gets by defenders fairly easily, plus she can find open teammates in traffic. I really enjoy her energy and passion for the game, her feistiness on the ball defensively, and just her all-around competitive fire. She is a really nice small college prospect.
