The updated class rankings came out in September. We continue to break down the rankings. Let’s take a look at some of the top guards inside the top 25 in the class of 2023.
Emma Risch Emma Risch 6'2" | PG Palm Bay | 2023 State #23 Nation FL (Palm Bay / East Coast United) – 6’1 SG
Ranking: 2
Position Ranking: 1
Risch is an elite talent that simply put was superb this travel season. She is highly skilled, has exceptional court awareness and vision, and is a well-rounded offensive threat in every facet of the game. She does a great job serving as a facilitator and a playmaker and helps contribute to her team winning in a number of areas and is not just dependent on scoring. She is the # 2 ranked prospect in the class of 2023 and the # 1 overall guard and is headed to Notre Dame next season!
Taliah Scott Taliah Scott 5'8" | SG St. John's Country Day | 2023 State #31 Nation FL (St John’s Country Day / FGB) – 5’9 PG
Ranking: 3
Position Ranking: 1
Scott is the state’s top playmaker and scorer. She is super aggressive and puts the ball in the basket in so many ways, it is near impossible to stop. She has great height and great athleticism and plays with a calm court presence while also being an extremely competitive difference maker who can drop 50+ points per game on any given night. The 5’9 perimeter player is headed to the University of Arkansas next season and is expected to be an impact player as a Freshman.
Alonya Waldon Alonya Waldon 5'5" | CG Palm Bay Magnet | 2023 State FL (Palm Bay / East Coast United) – 5’5 PG
Ranking: 21
Previous Ranking: 25
Position Ranking: 7
Waldon moves up 4 spots to # 21 overall after a very successful summer with East Coast United Family. The 5’5 guard did a little bit of everything for the ECU Family squad, bringing a court presence, an all-around offensive skill set that is extremely steady and consistent, and most importantly as the team’s main ball handler and point guard, she doesn’t turn the ball over. Her ability to impact the game as a ball handler, scorer, passer, and defender is impressive and fun to watch making her one of the summers top performers.
Olivia Davis Olivia Davis 5'7" | CG Cardinal Mooney | 2023 State FL (Cardinal Mooney / Always 100) – 5’7 PG
Ranking: 22
Position Ranking: 8
Waldon is a lefty point guard that changes speed and direction very well. She plays out of ball screens in traffic as well as any guard in Florida, getting into gaps and creating scoring opportunities consistently for her teammates. When on control, she completely controls the tempo of the game and never gets sped up too fast. She has an exceptional assist to turnover ratio and is a high percentage 3-point shooter who knocks down open shots off the catch and off the dribble.
