As an advocate for women’s basketball in Oklahoma, I am excited to cover players that work hard and aspire to play basketball at a high-level. The players below have shown they are the best and brightest of the pack and have been named my Top 5 players of the 2023 class.
Laci is by far the most talented player in Oklahoma, along with toughness, basketball IQ, and overall skill she sets the bar high and it’s hard to match her. She is also one of the most versatile players not only in the state, but in the nation. She has handles like I guard but can go to work in the post with anybody at any level. She competes to win and carries herself like a champion. Oh yeah, in her junior season she led the Edmond North Huskies to a 6A state title and knowing the mindset of a player like Laci, she is focusing on repeating. She is a leader and it has been recognized nationwide. Laci is a player I will have my eye on and I look forward to see her put in work this year! She has verbally committed to North Carolina State University and plans to attend in the Fall of 2023.
Stailee is a dynamic guard with size and skills to pay the bills. She is a smart player with handles and the ability to shoot your eye balls out. I like her approach to the game because she has an attack mentality but under control and poise. She is a special player that makes a difference on the court and plays at a high-level. She has caught the eye of many Division 1 college programs but Stailee will lead the new wave of high-level Oklahoma players deciding to keep their talents in-state. She has committed to play at Oklahoma State University in the fall of 2023. Stailee is a talented player and its fun watching her pick the other team apart with her basketball skills and play-making ability. If you ever have the chance to catch a Sapulpa High School game, make sure you do, you can thank me later.
Standing at 6-foot 3-inches, Landry stands out in most gyms she enters. Her length gives her the advantage but what she does with it makes her exceptional. In the post she is able to play with her back to the basket and score over either shoulder. Her mid-range shot is good and she can stretch the floor and hit the 3-ball consistently. She does a great job of using her length and keeping the ball up and away from the defense. It doesn’t matter how close they are, she is able to rise up above the defense and make shots with her quick release. I love her fadeaway jumper in the mid post and she plays strong in the paint. Defensively she shows quick instincts by playing the passing lane and protecting the rim very well. Landry is another high-level player that has decided to stay local and is committed to the University of Oklahoma, and will attend in the Fall of 2023.
Jaida is a player that I look forward to learning more about this upcoming season. Standing at 6-foot 1-inches, she has the frame to be an outstanding player. She can handle the ball and has the size to match up with bigger players, Jaida brings a lot of value to a team. She will be returning back to Classen with the mind set to continue the winning tradition they established last year by trying to repeat the 4A state title. I have heard a lot of great things about Jaida and I will definitely have my eye on her progress along with Classen this season. Jaida has committed to Louisiana Monroe University and will attend in the Fall of 2023.
Jazmin is a player I was able to watch earlier in the spring at the Skinz League High School Girls All-Star game, and I was truly impressed. She did all the little things like rebound on the glass consistently, hustled for loose balls, and she ran the floor with purpose. Jazmin plays strong in the paint and showed that she has good footwork. She is a threat on the perimeter as well on the block. She displayed athleticism and lateral quickness, which is rare in a player her size. She is a high-IQ player that has play-making ability but knows herself and will focus playing to her strengths. She has a quick release and a good-looking jumper from deep. She attends Putnam City West and will play her first season there this year. Following this year, Jazmin has decided to take her talents up north and has verbally committed to Eastern Michigan State University and plans to attend in the Fall of 2023.
