Illinois’s top shooters, playmakers, scorers, defenders, and overall talent will be on show. 4 hours of organized 5 on 5 to show scouts and college coaches how deeply talented they are.
Below is my list of the top juniors of the day.
With some Expo years under their belt, these upperclasmen are still putting on a show.
In her first game of the day, LP lit the net up from behind the arc. The lefty sniper uses her size, handles & speed to get where she needs to go to either get the shot off quick, or attack the basket. Game 2 was no different before she went down with a ankle injury after hitting the 3 to get her team back in the game. Pierce has the energy (both sides), discipline and awareness to run a team from the point position, or go combo and put numbers on the board.
A true do it all guard. Lavorato can knock down the long ball at a high clip, attack the paint and create for teammates, or probe and maneuver around the defense until she sees the right play. Very patient and decisive. She has the footwork to stop on a dime and the creativity and vision to develop something from nothing.
Highlights
At every event DiOrio attends, she finds to a way to stick out. The size, speed, agility is a handful for every matchup. She can run the one, be a spot up player, or apply pressure from the post. A high energy, and versatile guard that can adjust to the teams needs. 5’8 and built tough. DiOrio can play and guard multiple positions. A multi system player.
A steady paced player who gets to where she needs to at her own speed. Engels can be one of your best playmakers or your top scorer.. it just depends on what the team needs. She can adjust her game to the situation. Three levels of scoring, high IQ and a wide range of awareness of what’s going on. Her role at Loyola will be more prominent this year, looking forward to those games.
KJ was easily one of the best shooters in the gym all day. Saccaro has the quickness, the ball control to push the pace/run the break and the IQ/awareness to know when to score and when to feed. She see’s a lot of plays before they develop, which allows her to maneuver through the defense at her own speed. The jumper is usually a bucket.. her mistakes are very limited. On the opposite side of the ball, the aggression and energy is the same.
