Continue ReadingStella Charleston Stella Charleston 5’8″ | SG Southeast Polk | 2023 State IA didn’t go into the 21′-22′ season knowing that she would lead the state throughout the 5A class in three pointers made but that’s what happened. She made 76 three pointers while attempting 176, shooting 38.1% for Southeast Polk High School last season. This led to her averaging 10.7 PPG, 2.6 APG and an overall 13-10 record, 5-2 in conference for the Rams. Charleston is an aggressive offensive player always trying to find her shot when she is in the game. She has good form and a quick release giving her the ability to shot over most defenders as they are not expecting it. The biggest challenge to expand her game will be to add to her mid-range capabilities on the offensive end for her senior year.
A major loss for Iowa City-High is a major gain for the West Liberty Comets in the form of Kelsey Joens Kelsey Joens 5’10” | SG West Liberty | 2023 State IA . Joens was the leader of the 5A Little Hawks as a junior last year, averaging 21.3 PPG on 42.8% shooting, and 81.2% from the free throw line, on the way to an overall 19-5 record, 11-4 in conference. Making 70 three pointers on 170 attempts. She is simply put, a game changer, to any team that she is playing on with her ability to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court. After having a great AAU summer with All Iowa Attack EYBL 17U as their starting sharp shooter, The Iowa State Women’s basketball commit will finish up her high school career at 2A West Liberty High School. This change will catapult the Comets team to being at the top of their conference as well as set up Joens to possibly have the greatest women’s basketball scoring season we have ever seen this winter.
Mia Boulton Mia Boulton 5’3″ | SG Montezuma | 2023 State IA of the Montezuma Bravettes made the most three pointers in the state throughout all classes last season with 78. Impressively enough she did this at a 40.2% rate, averaging 12.2 PPG and 3 APG. The team leading point guard is a good catch and shoot player that is always searching for an open spot on the floor to find some space. She can shoot off of the dribble but seems to prefer the catch and shoot more frequently. Boulton will return this winter along side of some core varsity players from a year ago in attempts to have another good season after finishing 18-5 overall, 14-2 in conference.
Addison Klosterbuer Addison Klosterbuer 5’9″ | SG Central Lyon | 2023 State IA has one of the crazier stat lines when it comes to shooting the ball last season for the Central Lyon Lions. Klosterbuer averaged 14 PPG on 42%, 4.2 RPG, and 80.4% from the free throw line. She ended up making 75 three pointers, ranking her #3 in the state throughout all classes during the 21′-22′ season at an 38.9% rate. This would be an impressive stat line for any player, any year of their career, but it’s even more impressive knowing that she recorded these numbers while not starting a game last season. The pure shooter is very good at coming in the game and spotting up for the three ball from any location around the three point line. She will look to chip in again this year for the Lions after going 24-4 overall, 16-2 in conference and losing in the state championship game a year ago.
