With the upcoming High School Basketball regular season just one month away, there is a few players across New Mexico that is on my watch list for the 2022-23 season. This is part one of a series of three articles.
“Sandia” SG: Last season emerged as one of the best freshman. She is a very intelligent player who lets the game come to her. has improved in various areas in her game this past off-season and will showcase that this year. I think this will be a potential breakout year for the sophomore stud.
“Volcano Vista” Center: Through her first two seasons, is a two-time state champion. This year she will officially be the face of the Volcano Vista Hawks after losing several key players to graduation this past spring. She is up for the challenge and is on the verge of having her best season of her high school career so far.
Jordyn Dyer “La Cueva” Guard: The freshman standout will have the biggest impact on the varsity level of any player in the 2026 Class. The La Cueva Bears lost three really productive players from their basketball program but gained a key asset for the next few years to pair up with Star;. Jordyn Dyer will be a player you hear a lot about this season despite being a freshman.
“Bernalillo” Forward: The Bernalillo Spartans lost perhaps the best player in the state last season in Juliana Aragon, but will have the second best player; for one more season. She will be the teams best player this season with her inside scoring and rebounding efforts. Expect Gabby to keep Bernalillo in the mix this year as a senior.
“Volcano Vista” Guard: The Volcano Vista Hawks had arguably the best backcourt in New Mexico for the last two seasons, but lost those two players to graduation this past spring. They will be looking for a new set of guards for the future and is one of those players. She plays the right way and fits in perfectly on the Hawks basketball program. I expect her to have a nice season for Volcano Vista defending their back to back State Titles.
