This might be one skill on the court people overlook, simply by thinking it’s a free unguarded shot from the “charity stripe”. I’ll be the first one to say, it’s definitely not the easiest thing to do, especially when the game is on the line, the fans are loud, and you can feel your heart beating out of your chest. These shots can simply be a major factor in a team winning or losing a game. Let’s take a look at the best Free Throw shooters in both conferences, and the players who have nearly perfected the art of knocking um’ down from the stripe. (Based off a minimum 42 attempts)
Lidia Motl Lidia Motl 5'5" | PG Wahpeton | 2023 State ND : Whapeton- Motl possesses many qualities to her game that you can tell she has spent a lot of time fine tuning. Last year she led the Huskies and was 2nd in the EDC with a FT% of 78.7 (37/47), added 238pts/8.8ppg. She’s not the biggest one on the court, but she knows how to knock down shots, draw fouls, make her presence known and can put um’ in from the line. I’m excited to see how her Senior year plays out, she is talented on both ends of the court to say the least.
Miriley Simon Miriley Simon 6'1" | C West Fargo | 2023 State ND : West Fargo- The NDSU Commit is no stranger in the EDC, she’s an All-Stater that has proven can absolutely wreak havoc on teams in the paint. An added bonus to her bag full of talents, she is clutch from the free-throw line. As a junior Simon shot (106/138) 76.8% from the line, a skill that any coach wants in a bigtime player that is known to crash the boards and get second chance points as well.
Karson Sanders Karson Sanders 6'0" | SF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2023 State ND : West Fargo Sheyenne- Another talented post in the EDC that can not only rip down rebounds, add points inside and out, she is clutch from the line as well. Last year she was 4th in the EDC with a FT% of 75.9 (45-54) which is huge on a stat sheet for any player, but a team as well. Sanders is one I expect to be a top player in the EDC. She has a great motor and a bag full of skills that help her team in multiple ways.
