Seven 2027 Guards To Watch This Middle School Season
By Michael Wholey 10/13/22 9:00 AM EST
We identified a bunch of young talent in July. As we transition from travel ball to school season, here are seven 2027 guards to watch this middle school season.
Gianna Conklin-Jones Gianna Conklin-Jones 5'7" | SG Cocoa | 2027 State FL (McIntosh / East Coast United) – 5’4 PG
Conklin-Jones is a confident point guard who is very good with the ball in her hands. She is mature for her age, and is equally effective in the half court and the full court as a playmaker. In space she is flat out dangerous as she creates well in the open court, getting to the rim and creating shots for her teammates.
Kori Edge Kori Edge 5'4" | PG Miami Country Day | 2027 State FL (Pioneer / Miami Suns Select) – 5’4 PG
Edge is a savvy, confident point guard who does a good job finding open players. She changes speed and direction well and has a very calm court presence. She has continued to improve each time I see her play, playing with more and more confidence.
Leila Bryant Leila Bryant 5'7" | SG Holy Trinity | 2029 FL (Holy Trinity / East Coast United) – 5’5 Guard
Bryant played up three years in the 15U division and fit right in as her body, strength, and height fit in with the competition. She was extremely effective due to her ability to knock down 3s and did not back down. She is tough and aggressive and a big-time competitor.
Tatyana Campise-Pinkney Tatyana Campise-Pinkney 5'8" | CG Boca Raton | 2026 State FL (Boca Raton / Florida Lady Huskies) – 5’6 SG
Campise-Pinkney is one of the most improved players I have seen on the travel circuit. She is confident, versatile wing who has great size and a solid build. She was a very effective 3-point shooter, especially from the baseline off a penetrate and kick and a has a good release with a good form.
Janiya Swift Janiya Swift 5'7" | SG Central Florida Christian Academy | 2027 State FL (Central Florida Christian Academy / J Sizzle) – 5’7 PG
Swift was an impressive young guard with good handle and solid ball skills. She was a new face this summer and was impressed with her ability to get to the rack off a quick, explosive first step with a crafty finishing ability at the rim and impressive outside shooting.
Yinuo Wang Yinuo Wang 5'3" | SG American Heritage | 2027 State FL (American Heritage / Florida Lady Huskies) – 5’3 PG
Wang is a smaller guard who is skilled and can score the basketball. She is confident with the ball in her hands and uses her size to her advantage, getting into the paint and creating easy buckets on dump passes to post players and penetrate and kick opportunities for open 3s for perimeter players. She has 3-point range and also shoots high percentage off the dribble on a mid-range pull up.
Makayla White Makayla White 5'2" | PG Central FL Chriistian Academy | 2027 State FL (Wolf Lake / TNBA Florida South) – 5’0 PG
White is a quick guard with does a good job getting into the paint and utilizing the floater
in the paint. She pushes the ball aggressively in transition, getting into the paint and creating shots for her teammates or takes it all the way to the rim herself. On the defensive side, she is scrappy and aggressive. She gets into passing lanes, applies solid ball pressure and creates offense from her defense.
