Note: We do not have a class of 2027 database yet, so if any of the player information below is incorrect, please message me on Twitter (@alyxwhite_) or email me at alyxwhitegraphics@gmail.com so I can get it updated.
Baylee Warner
Baylee Warner
Warner could have zero skills and she would still be able to impact games because of her hustle and hard work. However, she does have the skills to go along with those intangibles. Defensively, she uses her length to block and alter shots, but also to get steals and deflections. Offensively, she has good range on her shot and she can knock down shots from anywhere on the floor. Warner also sees the floor well and makes great passes to set her teammates up for easy baskets. She should be a really valuable asset for Montgomery County.
Carr averaged 6 ppg and 5.2 rpg as a 7th grader for Lexington Christian. She was their 4th leading scorer and 2nd leading rebounder. She may have been one of the youngest players on the floor at all times, but she certainly didn’t play like it. She takes challenges and uses them as opportunities to show her skills. Carr is a 3 level scorer and she can get her pull-up jumper off quick, but she can also get to the rim or catch and pull. She handles the ball well and has a high IQ. Carr is strong defensively and can really read the passing lanes as well. She should continue to be a breakout star for Lexington Christian this season.
Ashleah Smith
Ashleah Smith
Smith is a smooth and crafty player. She has a lot of speed and quickness. Defensively, she brings a lot of intensity and has the ability to grab multiple steals in any given game. Offensively, she can handle the ball well, including when she’s being pressured. Smith makes good passes and runs the floor as well. She can knock down jump shots and she is really good at getting into the paint and finishing tough baskets around the rim. Bardstown graduated their 2 leading scorers and rebounders from last season, who both played the guard position, so expect Smith to take a big step up this year to help fill those voids for the Lady Tigers.
Makiyia Wheeler
Makiyia Wheeler
Wheeler is a strong, young point guard. Her ball handling skills are solid and her basketball IQ is strong. She can throw some absolute dimes to her teammates, and she even has the ability to deliver those passes through traffic. Wheeler has the skills of a true point guard, but she is also a 3 level scorer which adds to her versatility on the court. She can knock down shots off of the dribble or catch, or she can finish in creative ways around the basket. On the other side of the ball, Wheeler is a lockdown defender who uses her active hands to disrupt the offense. She has the potential to be a star player in the talented 2027 class.
Lyla Packer
Lyla Packer
I’m not sure there’s a better 2027 true big in the state outside of Bullitt East’s Lyla Packer. She’s a 6’2″ 8th grader that has good strength and a great feel for the game. While most young players try to swing at everything to block shots (and it would be even easier for someone with her height to do), Packer already does a great job of staying straight up to get blocks without fouling. In fact, she had 18 blocks in one of her games with her middle school team and had 10+ blocks in multiple games. Packer finishes really well around the basket and she doesn’t just rely on her height. She can finish with contact and she can also step out to knock down jump shots. Packer has potential to be a really special player.
Adrianna Brown
Adrianna Brown
Brown was the lone middle schooler on Great Crossing’s roster last season. What I like the most about her game is the pride she takes in her defense. She never gives up on a play and will sprint the entire length of the court to get a block. Brown plays extremely hard and has a ton of speed. Offensively, she can weave through traffic or beat her defender in 1-on-1 situations. Brown can knock down shots or finish in crafty ways around the basket. Great Crossing has a ton of talented returners, so I’m not sure how much Brown will play at the Varsity level this year, but she will definitely be an impact player for them in the future nonetheless.
